such a beautiful and stately car .. nicely kept!

if it is on the original plate, the EF series would have started in dec 1976 which would like you said be 45 years old!

this is the 280S which is the one with the carburettor, not sure if it would need more attention to tuning (as opposed to the 280SE with fuel injection).

I grew up touching the DATSUN 120Y wagon van as the first car as a small kid and get to drive the same DATSUN 120Y series pickups and the 100As. I believe they are carbs, my first few motorcycles are carbs too. I was told they are easy to work on just being mechanical so any old mechanic still working their dirty hands now should not be too much of a difficult feat for them. But parts ay need some patience I believe. These old mercs are really pcs of mechanical art indeed! 🙂

Let me add to the Mercedes theme on this page.. Spotted this beauty over the weekend.

Mercedes W116 S280, the first generation to be officially known as the S class.

The car is probably about 45 years old and on its original black plates (not classic plate). Even the rims are stock

EF plate should be around 1977, 78....

Probably popular in the early 90s. The brand can’t remember.

I think those 3-spoke rims popularised by Saab in their 900 and 9000 series in the 1990s.

there were different models with the same body style, and for the 2.8 litre 280, it came as the 280S (carb) or 280SE (injected).

my comment on the carbs was due to my thinking that there may not be many people who can property tune a carb engine to run well, and carbs may come with less electronics (that means possible no electronic ignition but old fashioned contact points which make the tuning deteriorate over time ..
