@Tohto 90s Japanese cars are pretty well built in quality. 

Post 2000 car models aren't built as it should be in terms of quality.  Plenty of hard plastic in the interior.

Its body work still look relatively good. This 8th gen Lancer, together with the 9th gen Toyota Corolla and the 7th gen Honda Civic heralded the era of higher hip-point seating in that category of cars.

This Lancer back then got 1.5L and 1.6L version, the 1.6L version quite nice to drive. During the early year 2000, Lancer, Corolla, Civic and Sunny were the most popular cars that people buy. Even though it seems like still Corolla and Civic were the most popular and also the most ex among all. Whether it was brand new or 2nd hand.
