I think your MIL supposedly looks a hippotamus from your descriptions and you would like a Hipporolla for her 😂

Haha this is what my MIL looks like.

Probably is because of the Toyota brand. Toyota brand has always been well known for its reliability.

OMV equal to reliability?  [:p]

In those days, anything with "Executive" or "Luxury" sold by Borneo HAS to have fake wood.

No fake wood the uncle fans won't buy 😁

But now no more fake wood and so they no more target uncle fans liao? Lol.

Since we are on the topic of Corolla, I just saw this version of the Hipporolla at Punggol Road today. I think this version was brought by PI after BM switched to the Thai made Corolla Altis. Sorry I don't have the actual pic as I was driving.

Wa, this one pay road tax will be damn powerful. $12+k per year. 😱 More than the depreciation for a lot of cars

Toyota, in general as a whole, has been trying to rejuvenate their brand/image to be younger and more exciting. It shows in their latest designs and they even came up with a new sub-brand Gazoo Racing to market its performance cars. So, you are right to say that they have been trying to shed that uncle and retiree image worldwide 😁

Taking the quintessential uncle car, the Camry as an example. We compare the latest generation (red) and the one immediately (white) before it and its not hard to tell where they are headed to.

Having said all this, uncle wood trim is still present in the latest Camry. Just that its less garish looking now...😁

Speaking of old pictures, I found some old pictures of cars in Singapore in the early 2000s, courtesy of Flickr.

Ford Taurus (was this sold here?) and Daewoo Legenza.
