A documentary video from CNA Insider showing us about the explosive facts of overcharging a bargain-price lithium-ion battery. This applies to mobile phone and other batteries that are lithium-ion.

But PMD' owners, please take note. You guys have higher risk involved. Due to the sheer size of the batteries.

So you must be wondering, how dangerous it can be right?

CNA Insider has gotten a professor from NUS, Dr Palani Balaya to demonstrate how overcharging lithium-ion batteries can be dangerous.

So here's a lithium-ion cell

This cell should take 3 volts to charge.

Let's ramp it up to 5 volts!

Okay. Something is growing. . .

To avoid all these mishaps, please look out for battery certification.

I have a PMD.

The battery pack is actually inside the metal frame of the PMD.
So if the cell gets overcharged like in this experiment, then what happens?

Will it be safer since its an enclosed battery?

When overcharged, be it is inside metal frame or not the result will still be the same.

Maybe inside the metal cage is able to take higher pressure. However do note that once the pressure has exceed the max the metal cage can carry, it will also explode.

@kobayashiGT I am not targeting you but this particular message is super misleading, especially when it is from our MSM! No wonder so many ah gong, ah ma and even man on the street can be so easily conned by those irresponsible few, selling non-compliant electrical and electronic products. Got logo can liao?!:omg::a-noway::a-noway:

For the benefits of all reader (and PLEASE do share it with your friends, family members, relatives, etc.), of the 6 logos shown on the battery, only 3 are related to the electrical safety of the battery cell (and electrical / electronic products). Click on the header for detail information.

South Korea KC Certification for Electrical and Electronic Products

Labels are the easiest to clone. Less effort also.

Better buy from reputable source. Like we dont buy cheap adaptor to charge yr latest flagship smart phone.
