Zipping Round The West Coast In A Toyota CHR

Redwoods National Park is actually a long strip of small parks assimilated together

you can choose one of many small seaside towns to stay in and drive to them but take note of the distances.

Most will do the Avenue of the Giants Drive which is down in Eureka but the Newton Drury scenic route is very nice too. Take your time!! Don’t do the CHAN brothers refugee style travel and cover ten places in a day.

Nice.. Will be watching this thread. Gg end Nov from SF to LA. Still planning route and itinerary

Hey bro

Look up

Big Sur

Carmel and the scenic drive

Santa Monica and Marina del Ray

The rest will be in your guide books.

My journey ends where you start sadly..

I’m not doing as much in SF - been there a few times.. the typical stuff are already in your travel guides, eg the Golden Gate, Alcatraz and the piers

If you have time eg three days or more, I highly recommend a side trip to Yosemite

please please  don’t try and do it in one $&@“! day trip ya ...

Bring warm clothes and stay outside the park if you need to save $$ but I prefer inside

I’ve slept in the meadows in a tent, a lodge in Camp Curry and a nice room at Brideveil Falls and the softest nicest smelling  bed was the grass in the meadows, but do that when you are young 😆

Setting a rabbit :

when driving long distances in USA do remember to watch that speed.. cops are in ambush especially after a downhill slope or a corner

find a car ahead who looks local and is traveling at a decent clip

go up to the speed limit and exceed speed by up to 5 mph max.. then use your adaptive cruise control to set the Distance you want to keep from him and set it up

so when he slows down, so will your car 🚗

I noticed that in the blog entry I’m a “madman” to do this in a CHR.. hmm

actually it’s a great little car which handles well and has the right balance to handle bad roads and long curving highways

but I won’t try it with our 1.2l turbo which I feel has shorter legs ..

No shopping

food expensive

go if you love nature

it’s my favorite destination in the world

if it is within four hours of SG I’ll be there every month or even week

but check weather conditions

some entrances are closed for winter and you just carry snow chains

I want to do LA to Vancouver one day.

Just a suggestion bro

do the reverse

usa offers two bags of 23 kg each even for economy

if you fly home via Canada you only get 23kg

theres more tax in Canada and the flight is longer

furthermore it gets colder up north - by going south you get warmer and more acclimatized to home

lastly the best malls are in USA so keep the car for the jump in bags when your wife finishes helping the US economy 😉

This Dec planning to go the above and then go towards Tennessee then Miami. The top part should be joining tour there as never drive so far on snow covered roads before, while doing self drive for the rest. Weather wise have to cater from -10 dc all the way to about 20 dc haha.
