I have all forgotten about PSA JVs in China...

White House Wary Of FCA-PSA Deal Due To China’sDongfeng Involvement

President Trump’s administration wants to carefully look over Fiat Chrysler’s planned merger deal with the PSA Group, according to White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow.

“We will obviously look at it very, very carefully,” said Kudlow in a Bloomberg interview. He then added that “the president has not commented on the deal,” while also stating that the U.S. is “not afraid of doing business with international companies, Lord knows.”

When asked about Donfeng’s 12.2% equity stake and 19.5% voting stake in PSA, Kudlow stated that “with respect to the Chinese story, we obviously are alert and on guard.”

“We will welcome a good deal. We hope it will get more production in the United States, more factories and workers and employment in the U.S. And with respect to the Chinese angle, we will take a careful look at it.”

There has been speculation within the industry that Dongfeng might actually sell its holdings in PSA, which in turn could help the latter’s transition get through U.S. regulators, as reported by Autonews Europe.

PSA of course is planning on re-entering the U.S. market (and Canada), and has already identified 15 states that are likely to be receptive towards the French brand. Among those states were Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

PSA Group Pulls Out Of Chinese Joint Venture With Changan

The PSA Group and Changan Automobile will put an end to their struggling joint venture in China aimed at producing and selling DS models.

According to a PSA spokesman, the French carmaker will continue to produce and sell DS cars in China, just not with Changan. As far as PSA is concerned, they also have a second, larger joint venture deal in the world’s largest car market with Dongfeng Motor, as reported by Autonews Europe.

“We would like to thank Changan for their support over the past eight years and confirm that DS brand will continue its presence and development in China,” said the automaker in an official statement. “DS Brand will deploy a new strategic approach to develop our business in this strategic market. Psa Group is fully committed to China.”

Meanwhile, a Chinese outlet dubbed Yicai Global reported that Changan was seeking to sell its half of the venture, which had lost almost $700 million in the past six years as per the Chongqing United Assets and Equity Exchange. These assets are to be listed on November 22.

PSA’s sales in China have declined from more than 700,000 units in 2014 to just 94,000 in the first nine months of 2019. Even more shocking though were DS’ sales in China and Southeast Asia, with just 311 units sold in Q3 of this year.

The PSA-Changan joint venture received a 500 million euro ($558 million) boost in 2017 to improve utilization rates at the Chongqing factory, which has an annual capacity of 200,000 units, yet has produced just one-tenth of that number in recent years.

Stellantis: The Weird New Name For FCA And Groupe PSA

stellantis-lead.jpg

fusione-fca-psa.jpg

It sounds more like a medication than an automaker.

The merged FCA and Groupe PSA have decided to call their corporation Stellantis. The company says that the name comes from the Latin verb "stello", which means “to brighten with stars." The interstellar name doesn't feel like a stellar choice, though, because it has no ties to either automaker's extensive history.

The companies offer a little explanation for the Stellantis name, but it doesn't really clarify a reason for choosing this specific moniker. "The name’s Latin origins pay tribute to the rich history of its founding companies while the evocation of astronomy captures the true spirit of optimism, energy, and renewal driving this industry-changing merger."

According to the Stellantis announcement, senior management from both companies were involved in coming up with the name. The French advertising and public relations firm Publicis Groupe also consulted on the decision. The next step is to create a logo for the business.

You're not going to see Stellantis on the grille of any vehicles, though, because it's purely the name for the automaker at a corporate level.

FCA and PSA (now Stellantis) finalized their merger plans in December 2019 and anticipated the entire undertaking to be complete in the first quarter of 2021. The company selected current PSA Chief Executive Officer Carlos Tavares as Stellantis' CEO first five years.

The new automaker is expected to be the world's fourth-largest automaker with annual deliveries of around 8.7 million vehicles. It consists of 13 marques, including notable names like Peugeot, Citroën, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram.

Stellantis intends to create two platforms that would underpin over two-thirds of its brands' models. Sharing technology so extensively would help save money through economies of scale.

The beginning of an end has started

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/business/after-long-journey--fiat-chrysler-and-psa-seal-merger-to-become-stellantis-13971834

just wondering who will be brave enough to scoop this up .. geely or Tata when the time comes..

fiat has some new EV product as well as the Alfa.. just that it’s not doing all that well ..

Chrysler do have some good product , just that have never tried them

only Chrysler that I may have rode in was the taxi n wasn’t too bad but don’t have that draw factor that it was more superior or equal to those premium brand.

unless there is a clear strategy or behaviour modification in how they will be building the future together, there will be no future...
