Major Road In Genting Highlands Blocked After Huge Landslide

Genting Highlands is a popular tourist destination for many Singaporean families — its fun theme parks and cool weather is a treat for everyone.

However, it seems like those planning to head up there soon for a holiday might have to make some changes to their plans.

A major landslide has hit Genting Highlands on Tuesday (5 Nov), cutting off part of a major road. This blocked off the route to a nearby hotel and apartment building nearby, reports New Straits Times.

“Hundreds of holiday-goers” were left helpless due to the landslide, according to NST. Fortunately, nobody was injured.

Rained for 3 hours prior to the Genting Highlands landslide

Videos have surfaced online showing streams of mud and rocks flowing down the mountain. It had been raining heavily for about 3 hours prior to the landslide.

In the video, a man shouts for the bus to close its doors as it reverses away from the landslide.

Both lanes of Jalan Genting-Amber Court were blocked off.

While the First World Hotel is in plain sight of the drivers, they are unable to access it due to the landslide.

Clean-up operations are ongoing

Firefighters were alerted to the landslide at 5.20pm, reports Harian Metro.

The station deployed 10 personnel to the affected area. They are now working to clear the mud and debris from the road.

Contractors working in the area are also helping the personnel.

Harian Metro added that the main road leading to Genting Highlands, however, is unaffected.

The situation is under control

When contacted by Berita Harian, the district police chief said that the situation is under control. However, the roads are still closed for cleanup works.

We’ve reached out to the High Commission of Singapore in Kuala Lumpur for comments and advice for Singaporeans heading to Genting in the coming days.

In the meantime, Singaporeans heading to Genting ought to check traffic conditions before heading over. If the weather is bad, it might be better to delay the drive up until the skies clear.

We wish everyone a safe trip during the holiday season.

KUALA LUMPUR: Around 100 people are feared trapped after a landslide at a campsite in Malaysia in the early hours on Friday (Dec 16), officials said.

At least 37 people were rescued from the campsite at Gohtong Jaya in Genting Highlands, news agency Bernama reported.

"According to the police, there are 100 people at the campsite who are likely to be victims of the landslide.

“The search and rescue mission for the victims is being carried out with the STORM (Special Tactical Operation and Rescue Team of Malaysia) team," he said in response to Bernama's queries.

May all the missing folks be found soon, and best alive. Year end is really not a safe season for adventurous activities.

KUALA LUMPUR – At least two have been found dead with more than 50 others feared trapped in a landslide in Malaysia on Friday, the country’s fire and rescue department said in a statement.

At least 37 victims have been rescued, Bernama reported, from Father’s Organic Farm at a Batang Kali campsite in Selangor state, on the outskirts of capital Kuala Lumpur.

Selangor’s fire and rescue department said of the victims affected by the landslide, around 51 people were still missing and three others injured. One of those dead was a child.

The campsite is located on Jalan Genting, Batang Kali, less than 15km away from popular tourist destination Genting Highlands. The camp offers tourist packages including camping and educational guides on organic vegetable farming.

Selangor’s Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said the distress call was received at 2.24am.

According to initial reports of the operation commander, the height of the ruins is estimated at 30m high, he said.

“The landslide is about one acre wide and fell onto the campsite,” Mr Norazam said when contacted on Friday, estimating around 100 victims that were affected by the landslide.

Cameron got a few hotspot.  Most of these hotspot is away from traffic.

On Cameron, it is not advisable to drive during downpour.  Unless it is Pickup Truck.
