Looks like you nvr use those shared bike b4. It’s very convenient for ppl who commute.

Within CBD, it’s convenient to move around rather than walking.

The only problem is biz model and ppl behavior

I have never use them but i fully support and like the idea. However, when you have 100 bikes for space of 10, the equation will never work. For share motor cars, they know how to ensure you park at the right lot. Now with the reduced number, it is much better isn't it? I still don't like the idea of bicycle sharing pedestrian footpath.

E-bike, e-scooter riders must pass online theory test, be certified from Jan 1

Quote

SINGAPORE: From Jan 1, 2022, all users of power-assisted bicycles and e-scooters must pass an online theory test before they are able to ride on cycling paths and, for power-assisted bicycles, on roads, said Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Monday (Jun 14).

"This will improve awareness of active mobility rules, code of conduct and safe riding practices, in support of a safe and sustainable active mobility landscape," said LTA in a news release.

The mandatory tests for e-bike as well as e-scooter riders will open for registration on Jun 30.

E-scooters are now legal? I thought they were illegal...

One time test with certificate no expiry date? Like driving licence, so still ok la. But read that those younger than 16 can ride an e-scooter under adult supervision, and the supervising adult will need to have passed the test?! So parents need to go take the test if they want their kids below 16 to ride an e-scooter, even they themselves would not be riding one?! Lol.

Supercharged

In spite the need for theory test, e-bike sales is still increasing.

Singapore's e-bike numbers double over the past year amid demand from food delivery riders

The number of electric bicycles in Singapore has soared over the past year, buoyed by increased demand from food delivery services amid the COVID-19 pandemic. There were 31,660 registered electric bicycles - or e-bikes or power-assisted bicycles (PABs) - as of the end of May, according to figures provided by the Land Transport Authority (LTA). That is twice the figure of 15,800 registered e-bikes in May last year.

Since it was made mandatory in 2018 for e-bikes to be registered before they can be used on roads and cycling paths, their numbers have hovered at around 13,000. But more people turned to e-bikes after the ban on the use of e-scooters and other personal mobility devices (PMDs) on footpaths in November 2019.

E-scooter numbers tumbled from about 100,000 in 2019 to just 6,671 registered devices as of the end of May this year - a 93 per cent drop. E-bikes sold in Singapore must meet the requirement that a cyclist pedals before the motor kicks in, and it cannot have a throttle that allows them to move without pedaling. This is unlike e-scooters, which generally do not have such pedals.
