Crossing The Causeway? This App Lets You Hitch A Ride To JB Or S'pore For A Faster Commute.

Johor Bahru might be a favourite among Singaporeans for a quick getaway, but travelling across the border means needing to endure excruciating hours-long jams.

While there isn’t any solution to ending jams altogether, fewer vehicles on the road still can result in a shorter wait.

This is where Sameride App wants to come in.

Sameride App, first established in 2016 in Washington, DC, is an on-demand carpool app that wants to “enhance ride communication among drivers and riders commuting on the same route”.

Almost 300 Johor-Singapore commuters have pre-registered in the Sameride app over the last two weeks, and the app is fully operational for Johor-Singapore commuters starting 30 Dec 2019.

Sameride estimates that users who commute between Johor and Singapore will be able to significantly reduce the cost of their commute up to 2 times compared to taxi services.

The Sameride App is available for Android and iOS, and users have the flexibility to be riders or drivers, set their pick-up time and locations, create ride offers or requests a few hours or a few days before their commute.

Presumably you'll eventually need some PHV license for this I imagine.  Effectively you're providing a taxi service, or at the very least you're monetising your travel, and when there is problems/accidents, who owns the liability?

Not just that, passengers bring prohibited goods, driver liable? Jam will be worse than taking bus. Cannot work.

Good point. If passenger is hiding drugs or illegal substances, who takes the blame? At the very least, the driver would get in very hot water.

Not worth the risk.

If driver runs lion, rider also jialat. No GO.

But with app, can show booking confirmation to prove not related one another other than wiling driver and willing rider.

But, if coincidentally, both driver and rider run lion....???🤣

Singapore-Johor carpool services: LTA warns 'strong enforcement action' against unlicensed vehicles

As long as government don’t earn from this services, it’s illegal!!

Those Starex and huge MPV have been doing this for years and I recall the taxi lau have even complained on the Channel 8 Frontline documentary, but LTA still slept on it.

Maybe someone up there knocked the head and they started waking up, a bit.. 😂
