I am not saying send to Mt E but maybe staffs and on duty doctor at Mt E can come and assist upon informed by passerby since its across the street. I believe they can do basic paramedic like doing CPR and stop the bleeding first while waiting for TTSH ambulance to come. Imagine u are bleeding for 10 mins waiting for ambulance to reach you.

The report mentioned that the two died before reaching the hospital.

I can imagine if theres another crash incident at Mt E taxi drop off area, would the patient wait TTSH ambulance to reach or get Mt E staff to tend first?

are you suggesting that the MT E staff would have ignored it if it happened literally on their doorstep?

"In a Facebook post on Monday, Dr Yeo said the hospital's A&E team would have responded immediately had it been activated or informed of the incident on Sunday.

He said it learnt later from news reports that the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was activated and had arrived to attend to the casualties."

it seems like they weren't even made aware of it until later. Basically no one told them. How to blame them? Blame the passersby for not calling them?

[lipsrsealed]

on a serious note, most probably thought calling 995 is sufficient. But not aware that 995 doesn't activate Mt E (AFAIK)

bro, it will now go into details, and I may not have the medical know how to answer this but:

- stabilise - what is the definition?

Eg, someone falls down, and needs a cast and plaster, no worries, Mt E can come and do that - 'stabilise' until SCDF comes

If there's a huge stabbing wound that needs immediately surgery, so the Mt E A&E MO comes out, yep, there isn't a big A&E in Mt E... and says surgery is needed, who do they call?

So he stands there, say, presses on the wound, and someone in the A&E who has a chest pain gets a heart attack episode, and needs help, will he rush in or stay with the stabbing wound.

There is also a lot of middle group which is hard to define. Either we say, let's pay for all kinds of cases to be treated at Mt E, which they will then gladly accept and claim from US, don't say government, because "government" is US... then yes, everyone contributes even when some old aunty now insists it's her Singaporean right to refuse to go to TTSH, but insists on Mt E treatment..

Fake news? No... these happen... or the pensioner who insists on extra meds, which he either stores or gives to his buddies, because he is entitled, as a CSC card holder...  these are real incidents now...

I would like to do the socialist thing, but are we responsible enough in our society? I'm not confident...

It seems like passerby call 995 but forgot behind them is Mt E A&E

if its a trauma case mt e said cannot handle so even happen at doorstep better wait TTSH ambulance to come?

Of course, this is TOTALLY untrue, any trained or untrained public will DO SOMETHING.

In one incident, a MT E Security Guard collapse while ON DUTY, MT E IMMEDIATELY attend to this individual in need of immediate medical attention.  He is saved with a Bypass ??. The medical bill is also very cheap at 90~100K as reported by ST, ya....

next time calling 995 should also activate all medical personnel and facilities within a 1km radius for immediate action.

yes maybe they will stand guard around the casualty (but hands off) till SCDF ambulance arrive.

Maybe scdf can work with private hospitals so can dispatch nearest ambulance to send to TTSH?

It will be faster to send victim by Mt E ambulance than waiting TTSH?

Being a non welfare state,  nothing can be considered really free in Singapore.

The private hospital ambulances are very very different from the SCDF ones...

Think typical Audi A3 or A4 vs a fully loaded full featured car.....

hard to blame the passers-by (who are probably untrained) for trying to help, even if they unwittingly cause more damage in the process. Lucky the car didn't burst into flames like the Eng Neo incident.

years ago, my colleague in Jakarta got hit by a fast moving motorcycle while crossing a road there. The people around tried to help by sending her to hospital via a motorbike [knife]

Fortunately she was still conscious enough to ask them to get a taxi (wait long long for ambulance there)

In the end, hospital found 3 fractures in the right femur and fibula. 2mths in hospital, 4mths MC after that.

Yup

thts why Sgsecure advocates first aid and cpr/aed training for many as then the individual would be equipped with basic knowledge of what to do in such an event as a first responder
