You cannot trust the Chinese Communist government.

WHO: China shared the genetic sequence of the novel coronavirus on 12 January, which will be of great importance for other countries to use in developing specific diagnostic kits.

Wuhan local health authority completed genome sequencing of the unknown virus on 10 Jan and informed WHO on 11 Jan (SGT)

The only time when those who "drop tools" and get of SG is when their currency value = S$1....ha!😆

Really hoped the cases would be negative for SG. If not, this time how many are going to drop tools and take the next flight out of SG, instead of manning the x-ray machines.

Seems like information can no longer be suppressed and thus the sudden spite in new cases reported in the past few days...

The sudden spike was due to the availability of the testing kit. Before that, it was difficult to confirm the infection. With the distribution of rapid test kit in the past two days, the identification of infected persons becomes quicker and thus, leading to the sudden spike in the confirmed cases.

I noticed there have been discussions on the Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in the forum, or “Wuhan Pneumonia” as we call it. So I will express my opinions here.

In the subtropical and temperate regions, winter and spring are the seasons highly risky of virus-related diseases: flu, SARS, MERS... We all remember SARS in 2002-2003. SARS began in November 2002, and ended in May 2003.

Virus needs a suitable temperature to survive outside the human body, mostly the range of 7-27 degrees Celsius as I remember. If the temperature is too high, it becomes inactive and dies eventually. That’s a main reason why SARS stopped all of a sudden in China in May 2003, when summers came.

In tropical countries such as Singapore, the tropical sunlight can boil eggs directly. Virus cannot survive long once it leaves human body. That’s why people in Singapore don’t need to worry too much about 2019-nCoV. The possibility of human-to-human infection is low.

I guess in Singapore and Malaysia, there are very few cases of flu outbreak either. Tropical climate is a reason. (If I’m wrong, please correct me.)

To be on the safe side, better not travel to China (especially Central China) these days, if not necessary. Safety is always the top priority.

As of yesterday (20 Jan.), almost everyone in China is on alert now, taking precautions. And all the official media are publicizing information about this disease. Wish us luck😊

I read the report 3 times...which part has insinuated that information had been "suppressed" ?

Even WHO cannot determine the strain of virus until last week and only confirmed H2H transmission this week.

Situation is constantly changing and I am sure medical authorities in China is just as anxious in finding out as much as they can....considering this weekend mass movement on CNY eve.

Please don't make assumption and hearsay when SARS-paranoid is starting to take hold.

Here we go. Australia has its first. Let's brace for it to reach our shores. We all know it's a matter of time before Singapore has its first. A friend in Changi Airport right now just told me the amount of China tourists in the airport is insane and almost like a market. What's new.

A Brisbane man is believed to be the first in Australia to be tested for the deadly coronavirus that has already killed four people.

Queensland Health confirmed to Yahoo News Australia the man had suffered from symptoms similar to those people experience when they contract the virus after returning from a trip to China.

He has since been placed in isolation in his home.

If you have colleagues from China whom you know will be going back to their home country this CNY period or any colleagues, family, friends flying to China during this period and back, please urge them to do the right thing. Practice proper hygiene, wear a mask, practice self care and try to stay out of populated areas (tough) and when they're back in Singapore, please declare if feeling unwell. Please be transparent about your travel history if you're seeing a doc. Please quarantine yourself or at least stay out of populated areas if you are of high risk to the virus. Please don't go CNY house visiting right after a trip to China.

China says fourth person dies in Wuhan pneumonia outbreak

rk_chresidents_210120.jpg?itok=gyWeKzTB&

SHANGHAI (REUTERS) - A fourth person has died from pneumonia in the central Chinese city of Wuhan following the outbreak of a new coronavirus, health authorities said on Tuesday (Jan 21).

The 89-year-old man developed symptoms on Jan 13 and was admitted to hospital five days later after he experienced severe breathing difficulties, the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission said in a statement. He died on Jan 19.

It said the patient also had underlying health diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and coronary heart disease.

In a separate statement posted on its official Weibo account, the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission said 15 medical workers in the city had been diagnosed with pneumonia with one other suspected case. Of the infected staff, one was in critical condition, it added.

The outbreak, which began in Wuhan, has spread to more Chinese cities including the capital Beijing and Shanghai, and four cases have been reported outside the country's borders, in South Korea, Thailand and Japan.

Authorities confirmed a total of 217 new cases of the virus in China as of 6pm on Monday, state television reported, 198 of which were in Wuhan.

If got in Korea, Japan,  Hong Kong then China must have quite a few.

Here lies the danger of the organisation, where every level of official prioritise his own political survival first . Village. town, City, Province, State

Good news get amplified up on the way up

Bad news get attenuated on the way up until it disappear at the appropriate level

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asia/wuhan-pneumonia-philippines-probing-possible-case-virus-china-12295636

The Philippines was probing on Tuesday (Jan 21) its potential first case of the SARS-like virus that has infected hundreds in China, health authorities said.

A five-year-old child arrived in the Philippines Jan 12 from the central Chinese city of Wuhan, where the disease was discovered, and has been hospitalised since with flu symptoms.

While the child tested positive for a virus, authorities in Manila say they are not sure if it is the same one that has killed four people in China and sickened people in three other Asian countries.

"The child is considered a person under investigation," Philippine health secretary Francisco Duque told a press briefing in Manila.

Samples from the child were sent to a lab in Australia for further testing and authorities are awaiting the results, he added.

The child was already showing symptoms like fever, throat irritation and cough before arriving in the central city of Cebu with a parent, the health department said.

The reason SARS was dealt so swiftly and effectively is because the primary areas is Singapore and Hong Kong and both government did fantastically well.

Both were open and transparent about the size of the problem and never tried to downplay it or reduce the size of the real problem.

Both took effective measures in scanning at airport, isolating people to stop them from spreading it.

The problem with the Wuhan virus is its in China with a Communist government.

They will downplay the seriousness of the problem, hide the problem as long as possible, reduce the real number of people affected and be very slow in admitting things like it is passed from people to people.

1 person affecting 14 nurses shows how contagious it is.

Communists can never be open, honest, truthful, transparent, not covering up and this is exactly how the virus will spread and it will be so much more difficult solving this problem.

I don't think the communist have the testicular fortitude to stop the spread by detaining people who maybe affected from travelling home to other parts of China for CNY.

They are so slow to take action and stop it when its a smaller problem they will need to solve it as a bigger problem.

I can see this as a very big problem and all the central gov can do is threaten the local gov. I don't think this will stop the local gov from doing what they want.
