This is why war - or even just tension - is so dangerous in this modern times. The world is so inter-connected. People are travelling every min everywhere. Once there's tension and the armed forces go into high alert, there's no telling when some super tensed-up soldier/commander will make the wrong decision under stress. with something travelling at maybe close to 300-500 km/h (anyhow guess one) on the radar in its country, and just after their general was killed and they themselves fired missiles in retaliation, they would all be anticipating reprisals...

Even If they have advanced technology to help them verify/confirm the ID of the flight (friendly/foe), there's no telling whether they will take chances. What more they have been under sanction, so good chance equipments are not top-notch.

I've read some articles about the cold war period, got some soldiers from both sides were on the verge of pressing the button to launch a nuclear missile, thinking they were under attack, but held back at the last min...

Good for mankind and we should be glad they did (hold back). If they hadn't, and there was an all-out nuclear war back then, who knows what the world will be like right now...

Iran will say... or try... jumbo transponder never turn on... acted like military plane. Pilot caused the mistake. 

Transponder can't be found... or burnt to melted cannot test... but iran very very sure never turn on, or malfunction. 

Also..

See who who punished.. could be just the nco manning the battery.. plus maybe PC.

But surely it goes much much higher

The Ukrainians are fighter the Russians to take back their country.

To be fair... he may actually be innocent. 

Their military is controlled differently. Civilian authorities don't necessarily know what the hell is going on.

There is no question of Iran having ANY INVOLVEMENT in the crash.

See, if Trump hadn't had that No2 killed then none of this would have happened.

But if the No 2 hadn't been such an A hole then Trump wouldn't have had him killed then none of this would have happened.

But ... if so on and so forth.

 

It's just a complete mess and Trump's America have no idea how to do things diplomatically with negotiations.
