Cost aside, stressful education system is a thing I wish it could be changed. Why must exam be scheduled in such a way that many student find it hard to complete within the time frame?

Work expands to fill the time available for its completion. If you’re into productivity, you’ll know this proverb as Parkinson’s Law. This interesting statement was made by Cyril Northcote Parkinson, the famous British historian and author, in 1955 – first appearing as the opening line in an article for The Economist and later becoming the focus of one of Parkinson’s books, Parkinson’s Law: The Pursuit of Progress.

The time factor is needed for you to learn how to focus. Similarly being in a real race (swimming or running) teaches u something as well. It maybe artificially induced but given the fact that we no longer have to throw kids in front of tigers to teach them they need to run faster, be smarter. That's what modern society had come out with to establish social hierarchy.

Ultimately schools are a concept to train workers for the work force. I believe the current concept of schools come from industrial Germany in the 1800s.

Of course when u get older, then wealth/money becomes a proxy for success.

Govt already stopped exams for p1-2. But I think they recognise that they can't let the primary school period be totally devoid of higher stakes examination.

What's the big deal about sending kids to overseas uni?

I told mine either they get scholarships or I will pay for them to study abroad.

There are quite a few overseas unis in JB and cost is only 1/3 from Singapore.

Next time can see my kids at the weekend when I visit my MIL after finding out which one is the cheapest mature people's resort.

Worth getting stuck at the causeway cos can pump petrol and go for a massage at the same time.

If my kids don't study hard and get bursary and scholarships

they could be the first kids to go study in JB.

Its only fair every morning at 5 or 6 am there are so many JB kids come here to study. Damn hard working kids.

Its about time we sent a few there.

Funny thing after i told them this they seem to play with their hand phones a lot less and seem to be hitting their books a lot more.

They just don't seem very keen on JB.

I studied stats and the odds are with you.

Go for it.

If you get another boy or worse twin boys then it was meant to be.

Because 4 boys or 5 boys is super small odds.

Zero! 😇 Don't think I'll ever want a kid too. Too much responsibility, commitment. Can't see a kid fitting in with my current lifestyle or in the foreseeable future. Huge respect to those with kids though. Maybe eventually I'll settle for a dog or a cat.

@kobayashiGT, how many kids you have in mind ah? [:p][laugh][laugh]

Kind of curious. how many kids do singaporeans have? What makes you stop there?

Is there anything the government can do that will encourage you to have more kids?

I have no kids.

I agree kids are a bundle of joy. However, my wife and I think twice after seeing the amount of pressure kids faced in their studies as well as their time spent on countless tuition/enrichment classes during weekends, i.e. no time to live their childhood.

Have or no have, one or too many, you'll also miss out something when you look from hindsight.

It's very difficult to explain to the lay person you know.😊

If people really believe I am trying to do my MIL in they live in their own world.

I post so much nonsense that people can actually believe of all my silly posts this one about my MIL is real?

Its amazing. I am just kidding lah!

Just in case something bad really does happen to my MIL

and the police start looking into my old posts.

I think I am safe from suspicion now.

Aiyah. Everyone was just taking the opportunity to just “poke“ you a bit, since you always mention your MIL! 🤪😋

I Know of 3 sisters who gave birth all boys. One with 1 child and the other 2 with 3 each. All dare not try for more! Haha

Anyway boys will give you less problems

They are not going to come home crying and say some girl got them pregnant.

But you also see less of them once they move out.

known of many guys who end up at the MIL place more often than their own parents place.

The old cliche, ‘A son’s a son ‘til he takes a wife, but a daughter is a daughter all her life’.
