Hi there!

I am looking at used Volvos that are around 7-8yo as I saw that their depre quite ok. (About 9k to 10k)

I saw S60 T2, T4, T5 and S80 T4 (1.6L) and etc.

Will like to see your opinions which model is better to get in terms of maintenance and servicing for a used Vovlo?

And there are other things to take note of?

Thanks!

S80 is a phased out model and the T4 is with ford GB IRCC.

1.6L is not ideal for such a heavy car IMO and at 7~8 years, expect  the wear and tear to be high.

if you get the S60,  got for the T2 or T5  Drive E which uses the 6-speed and 8-speed Aisin GB.

Avoid the Ford GB models if you want to have lesser headaches.

Wow, the reviews for S60 were so bad 😞

Like what @Strat have said, if you are considering an S60, then get the Aisin GB. I think that will be more fuss-free. For used car, now the buyer is in favour, You can go and ask for more discount. No harm go and see see look look and test drive the car first.

Avoid the S80 at all costs.

S60 ok. Just need to watch out for gearbox issues. Test drive a couple of times before deciding.

Supercharged

my 2.0T with Ford's Powershift is fine, but i did preventively changed trans fluid @ 75K km.

is powerful enough, but must learn to live with the turbo-lag.

The 1.6L turbo in the S80 that you are considering is a Ford sourced engine.

Huge turbo lag at low speeds will  not be confidence inspiring.

Car that size needs the 2.5L turbo option.

7-8 yo 2012-13

2.5T T2 T6 Aisin GB

2.0T T4 T5 infamous Ford GB

2015 onwards, only models with drive-E engine come with Aisin 8speeder

avoid the Ford GB if you can. If need to repair, go outside WS and use Ford OEM parts instead of Volvo original. Ford has a patch but wowo still uses original...

I ever had two T6 and one 2.5T, no issue with the Aisin GB at all.

find a Volvo model available in China market then the parts, be it original or aftermarket, will be cheap to source...

7.5yr old still go tor kor? At least double to triple the repair costs!

Yes avoid the Ford Dual Clutch transmission.

5 banger engine most robust, but all 9 year old already. Volvos should be reliable based on my own experience. Probably will keep mine beyond 10 year.

Source your own parts from the Sin Ming stockist or from overseas if you have time. Taobao/Aliexpress, eBay, Amazon etc. Most are very reasonable, sometime I bought so rediculously cheap too!
