Two teens charged after one allegedly placed juice he drank back on FairPrice supermarket shelf

SINGAPORE- Two 17-year-old boys appeared in a district court on Thursday (April 9) after one of them was allegedly caught on video sampling drinks at an NTUC FairPrice supermarket before placing them back on a shelf.

The video was uploaded onto Instagram and it later became viral.

It had also caused public alarm in the midst of this current coronavirus outbreak.

Nigel Pang Yew Ming and Quek Xuan Zhi were each charged with one count of being a public nuisance.

In a statement on Wednesday, police said that they were alerted about the incident on Feb 8.

In the video, a boy is seen drinking from a bottle in the supermarket before putting it back on a shelf.

He takes a second bottle and puts it back after sampling its contents.

A version of the video circulating online had the title "how to spread Wuhan", referring to the Chinese city that was the epicentre of the Covid-19 outbreak at the time.

Later that month, FairPrice said it would be working with the authorities "on the necessary actions that need to be taken for (the) case".

Both teens were offered bail of $3,000 each. They will be back in court on May 8.

Offenders convicted of being public nuisance can be fined up to $2,000.

Good Morning Fellow MCF inmates,

If somebody owes you money, now is the best time to look for them.

They should be at home.

Supersonic

govt say no eating at hawker centre, only takeaway.

they expect you to take home and eat, although not explicitly mentioned.

then NEA and other authorities come and chase people away, even at void decks. that's their interpretation of the new law.

that's all good for essential workers with office or those not working.

what about essential workers that need to eat ? where is the place to eat ?

you can't expect these people to taobao and bring it home to eat when they are on the road doing essential work, private hire drivers, delivery vans/trucks, grabfood, deliveroo, etc. ???

If it is me,  I will just find a sheltered place and eat where my vehicle is. I will pack food which is easy to eat and fuss free.

Not a big deal if I cannot find a proper place to sit and eat.  During this month, everyone will be inconvenience in some way, so I will just make do.  My bigger concern is whether I can make money or not this month.

That's me if I am a delivery/PHV guy.

East Coast beach got a lot of runners and walkers. It is really crowded along the path ways.

A lot of them are foreigners...

So is Pasir Ris Park. Many of them are still socialising, walking closely and chit-chating, cyclists stopped some where and do the normal things. An old couple was seen carrying a tingkat at one of the sheds...

Actually I think park should be close.

A bill has been pass to ban social gathering of friends and relatives in public places.. But how do you enforce that if you keep the parks open?  It will be obvious that everyone will meet at the parks since they can't meet at any other place.

Again, another half baked measure.

Maybe I dont understand but how is that different from sitting in a deserted void deck and eating?

Even if u say u eat in your vehicle, people can still walk past while u r eating.

Maybe for a lorry it's not an issue.   I am thinking of cars or delivery riders.  They dont have a "base" and its impractical to go home just to eat and drink cos dont forget its not just meals.  Sometimes some coffee and a break for 15 minutes is needed.

Saying use common sense or be flexible is not helping cos everyone thinks differently.

The only solution I can think of is simply call this a lock down.

All delivery riders stay at home and come out only when there is an order.  And all buyers accept that there will be delays.

And taxis to stop roaming the streets. Only take in call bookings.   Cant the cab companies simply waive on call booking charges for this month so that people will just book for cabs and cab drivers dont waste time and fuel going around and waiting at empty taxi stands?

Two cents.

Yeah, those guys in ivory tower should understand they have trained a bunch of highly intelligent citizens that know how to exploit the slightest weakness in whatever rules that is passed.
