Heard over radio that the correct way of washing the reusable mask is to hand wash with warm water and not so strong soap and can sun to dry. Cannot use hot water and harsh soap, also do not use washing machine.

Oic. Thanks! I am washing my mask later. will wash with warm water.

For those who want additional protection, can consider to buy mask filter.

We still have developing country mentality.

Sometimes I thought we could be like sweden. Some new rules but mostly biz as usual, each individual use their own brain to assess, do social distancing etc. By and large they do it. Can we? No, because given that option we will all cram into trains and buses because boss say must come in before 8.30. :D

For majority of us, despite what we say, our thinking is very short term.

Disclaimer: don't seem Sweden's measure is a success. Twice our population, 700+ deaths.

Sweden is toughing it out and hope that the population quickly gains immunity. But the older generation will suffer more through this method.

However they have the advantage that work-from-home is more accepted right from the beginning, so they avoid the problem of crowds commuting to work. And also because of the social welfare system, employees don't force themselves to go to work if they are ill, avoiding the problem that we had (sick people still go to work and infect others).

Sweden's death toll looks good when compared to other european countries where despite strict lockdown, thousands more deaths were recorded.

There are 3 types of UV, A, B and C. In this article ~

 https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20200327-can-you-kill-coronavirus-with-uv-light

"Though there hasn’t been any research looking at how UVC affects Covid-19 specifically, studies have shown that it can be used against other coronaviruses, such as Sars. The radiation warps the structure of their genetic material and prevents the viral particles from making more copies of themselves."

"As a result, a concentrated form of UVC is now on the front line in the fight against Covid-19. In China, whole buses are being lit up by the ghostly blue light each night, while squat, UVC-emitting robots have been cleaning floors in hospitals. Banks have even been using the light to disinfect their money."

p087xkfv.jpg.5fc030aac7bdc7b33897519566218eae.jpg

"Would UVA or UVB work instead? And if so, does this mean you can disinfect things by leaving them out in the sun?

The short answer: possibly – but you wouldn’t want to rely on it."

Do note UV is also damaging to our skin....

UV has a range in the spectrum. There is no normal or abnormal UV.

Same as visible light. It is a range within the spectrum. There is no normal or abnormal light.

Hand wash and squeeze out gently can already. I made the mistake of wringing it dry (because I received the later-issued thicker cloth mask), and heard some threads 'pop'.

Terrex confiscated incident pretty much the same.

Historically SAF equipment used to be shipped back using NOL, which is the national shipping line. But we all knew what happened to NOL eventually. Ended up getting confiscated easily using HK based APL to ship the Terrexes back.

Official reason for confiscating was that there were lapses with the paperwork but who would be naive enough to believe this? Bottom line is if we regard something no longer strategic enough to take ownership, then don't complain when we were forced to be taken hostage when the situation calls for it.

Don't even get me started that some of our power stations and SPC are now owned by Chinese companies...

Talking about NOL, we a general to thank!

Replying to Neutrino's post on whether UV inactivates coronavirus.

'Ghosts' scare Indonesians indoors and away from coronavirus

source: https://cnalifestyle.channelnewsasia.com/trending/ghosts-scare-indonesians-indoors-and-away-from-coronavirus-12636812?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

People dressed up as ‘pocong’ have been holding surprise patrols to scare residents of a village into staying home.

Kepuh village in Indonesia has been haunted by ghosts recently – mysterious white figures jumping out at unsuspecting passersby, then gliding off under a full-moon sky.

The village on Java island has deployed a cast of "ghosts" to patrol the streets, hoping that age-old superstition will keep people indoors and safely away from the coronavirus.

"We wanted to be different and create a deterrent effect because 'pocong' are spooky and scary,” said Anjar Pancaningtyas, head of a village youth group that coordinated with the police on the unconventional initiative to promote social distancing as the coronavirus spreads.

Known as "pocong", the ghostly figures are typically wrapped in white shrouds with powdered faces and kohl-rimmed eyes. In Indonesian folklore they represent the trapped souls of the dead.

But when they first started appearing this month they had the opposite effect. Instead of keeping people in they bought them out to catch a glimpse of the apparitions.

The organisers have since changed tack, launching surprise pocong patrols, with village volunteers playing the part of the ghosts.

President Joko Widodo has resisted a national lockdown to curb the coronavirus, instead urging people to practise social distancing and good hygiene.

But with the highest rate of coronavirus deaths in Asia after China, some communities, such as Kepuh village, have decided to take measures into their own hands, imposing the ghostly patrols, lockdowns and restricting movement in and out of their village.

"Residents still lack awareness about how to curb the spread of COVID-19 disease,” said village head Priyadi, “They want to live like normal so it is very difficult for them to follow the instruction to stay at home."

There are now 4,241 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Indonesia, and 373 deaths, with fears the numbers will rise significantly.

Researchers at the University of Indonesia estimate there could be 140,000 deaths and 1.5 million cases by May without tougher curbs on movement.

When Reuters recently visited Kepuh village, the supernatural strategy seemed to be working, with villagers running off in fright when the ghosts materialised.

"Since the pocong appeared, parents and children have not left their homes,” said resident Karno Supadmo, “And people will not gather or stay on the streets after evening prayers."

Well, I'm quite sure after this Covid-19 blows over, the 2 masks production lines we shifted back aren't going back to Taiwan anytime soon. That's the right thing to do for SG.

Normal UV does little, although I still hang my masks in the sun.

The only UV which works to kill the virus is extremely dangerous.

They can't stand the heat online, from both local and abroad. 😆

As a politician or someone closely related to one, if you don't have any constructive to add to help our situation, please don't post comments which can allow people to interpret otherwise.

We don't have to know how you are cooking your char beehoon for your family of 7 during CB, and we don't have to know about your purposely vague /useless comment on donations from other countries.

Citizens should do our part by obeying the CB rules and don't sensationalise things online. Likewise, the same goes for politicians, and even more so from them.

Japan's Abe also got roasted by netizens for posting his photo of stay-at-home, relaxing on the sofa with a cup of tea and his pet dog [laugh]

Trying to appear trendy and popular on social media is a delicate art. Some politicians do it quite well, but they usually have a background in media or journalism that helps them.

Not true bro, the death rate of Sweden is worse compared to similar densed neighbouring Scandinavia countries who lockdown their countries early. There are already a few articles on the negative effect of the swedish method.

UV radiation

What is UV?

The sun is by far the strongest source of ultraviolet radiation in our environment. Solar emissions include visible light, heat and ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Just as visible light consists of different colours that become apparent in a rainbow, the UV radiation spectrum is divided into three regions called UVA, UVB and UVC. As sunlight passes through the atmosphere, all UVC and most UVB is absorbed by ozone, water vapour, oxygen and carbon dioxide. UVA is not filtered as significantly by the atmosphere.

What is the difference between UVA, UVB and UVC?

The three types of UV radiation are classified according to their wavelength. They differ in their biological activity and the extent to which they can penetrate the skin. The shorter the wavelength, the more harmful the UV radiation. However, shorter wavelength UV radiation is less able to penetrate the skin.

Short-wavelength UVC is the most damaging type of UV radiation. However, it is completely filtered by the atmosphere and does not reach the earth's surface.

Medium-wavelength UVB is very biologically active but cannot penetrate beyond the superficial skin layers. It is responsible for delayed tanning and burning; in addition to these short-term effects it enhances skin ageing and significantly promotes the development of skin cancer. Most solar UVB is filtered by the atmosphere.

The relatively long-wavelength UVA accounts for approximately 95 per cent of the UV radiation reaching the Earth's surface. It can penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and is responsible for the immediate tanning effect. Furthermore, it also contributes to skin ageing and wrinkling. For a long time it was thought that UVA could not cause any lasting damage. Recent studies strongly suggest that it may also enhance the development of skin cancers.
