Thanks for sharing. I have similar encounter 2 years back. Long story short, my ex-tenant (who lease had expired before the whole incident was uncovered) asked his whole Kampong (father, mother sister, and 2 - 3 other relatives) to use my address when applying for work and dependent passes.

The things here is that there isn't any acknowledgement mechanism in place over at MOM and ICA, meaning any Tom Dick and Harry can suka suka put any address they like. My case was uncovered when I read news of such cases from the press (and I think MCF have a thread about it too - need to search).

I did feedback to MOM and ICA about having 2 way authentication but was told they are still evaluating the situation and options available. For now, what we can do is to check through the link you have provided regularly to ensure that our address has not been misused.

oh... can make use of address to apply passes... no wonder.

But if got official letters sent here for them, then what they do leh? They also won't get these letters...

Your father's singpass might be compromised. Better change the password. I recently moved back to my parents and update my name in his residential address. Hdb really not doing anything. My sis moved out a few years ago and her name is still there.

Wah dun scare me leh... My parents are staying with me, so it's my SingPass instead 😓

Actually now i'm really curious how they made the application. Is it really no need verification, can anyhow put any address, like what @Carbon82 said above? Or they really hacked my SingPass to add the names?? I hope it's the former, then at least i don't need to worry about my SingPass' integrity...

And i think the site is only for FWs leh. If family members staying in the house, should not be here bah. That one only have to go police station change address in NRIC only right? Don't think need to update anywhere else.

Thanks for sharing.  Didn't come across this link before.

For my case, it is the opposite, I rented out the whole unit to the same FT family for several years already, but I don't see their names on the website.  Is this ok?

Is this a HDB or private property? If HDB, then did you apply to HDB to rent out the flat and put the tenants' names? If no, then it's dangerous, cos if HDB do spot check, and in their record got no name, means it's not "rented out with approval". Might have trouble. But if private, then i not sure whether need to apply approval anywhere or not...

I wonder if they fine those ppl who anyhow submit bogus addresses. Also a waste of MOM resources to go check one by one.

And why does the system not require mandatory approval from the property owner in the first place?

wah... powderful questions these 😄

3 officers came lor. These people could have been deployed to better use right?

It's so stupid that this loophole was allowed to exist in the first place. A simple owner verification process would have not only avoided the MOM resource wastage (maybe intentional job creation) but also potentially preventing lots of nefarious activities from taking advantage of this loophole.

Oh. Coz my dad's singpass is set up by those guys in the cc. So a possibility of pw being compromised. But now singpass got otp via mobile so it's quite secure. I'm not sure how this things works but my FIL rented his room out. And he needs to update the particulars of his tenants to hdb every now and then.

I just got to know that updating your address for your nric is only to inform ica only. So police knows where to catch u if u did something wrong. And hdb will not. I just got to know this information when transferring my season parking to my parents house. As I'm not a recorded resident at my parents house, I need to pay more. So I called and asked hdb if updating my address at NPC would solve that, the answer is no. I need to use my dad's singpass, log into hdb website and manually add my particulars as a resident. The approval process will take 3 weeks.

I'm not going to mention the sarcastic comments I gave to the officer after hearing that 🤣.

OT a bit.

My neighbour's teenage daughter got caught smoking by NEA officers and she gave them my address.

A warning letter was sent to me. Subsequently I called NEA to clarify and told them the correct address to send letter to. Gave them an earful,  why never check NRIC?

thanks TS for sharing.

Late morning, i was on a Teams meeting, W'ingFH.

My doorbell bo battery, and there was knocking on the door. My father went to open the door, and a conversation started. My father is 86 btw, although still very healthy and fit, could sometimes be 'defensive' -- when got strangers come knocking. 😀

After a minute or two, i told my colleague i need to attend to something first, and ended the call, then went to the door.

Got 3 persons standing there, and my father then let me take over. The 3 officers identified themselves as from MOM, and said they were checking on whether we rent or had rented out our house/room to Foreign Workers before. I said no, and they said they're checking cos there is one FW who registered his residential address using our address! Now that's a shock...

The officer then explained that if it's not true, then the registration is wrong (i can't remember if he used 'illegal'), and suggested that I go online to check and if need be, to block my address from being used for this purpose. Then another officer took out her handphone to show me the website where this can be done. They then asked me for my name and contact number just in case MOM needs to check anything with me, and left.

I was a little shocked, and when i told my parents, they of course started more comments, more shocked, etc. etc. 😂

I then went online -- as advised -- to check, and to my surprise, saw not one, but four, FWs registered to my address!!!

The webpage advised to email a complain to MOM if anything is inaccurate, and i did that. Then i removed the 4 names and proceeded to update the record.

Not sure whether there's any implication on my address being used, but thought it's useful to share this here. Have never heard of this before...

You might want to check whether your address is also being used, and even if not, you can check the "block" option in the webpage so that nobody can use your address even if they want to.

The website -- need SingPass to login -- to check is Foreign Worker Tenant Enquiry Service (FWTES)

Thanks for sharing.First time heard of this.

oic... you should help your dad to change the password lah.

my dad went for some infocom/mobile app course, and the trainer also taught them to use SingPass. I used to manage all his matters, then the trainer helped him to reset the password, cos it's a WDA-subsidised course that required participants to login with SingPass to apply for subsidy... Then come home already i helped to change the password again...

Wow i didn't know must add family members as residents in the same household... Is it only for HDB, or for private property as well?

This is another issue I have with our authorities. So many different process / standard for doing the same thing.

1) To apply for work / dependent / visitor passes, one need to declare a local address to ICA and MOM (except short term visitor pass). As far as I know, no verification with address owner needed. Thus has nothing to do with Sing Pass account.

2) To rent out HDB flat / room to foreigner, owner need to submit the request to HDB, and input the details of individual tenants (quite a tedious process) via Sing Pass. It is also the owner responsibility to update HDB via Sing Pass once the tenant is no longer staying in the property.

Agree completely. Wonder who came up with this incredible process...
