Skoda's boss could replace Oliver Blume at the helm of Porsche.

The Volkswagen core brand is facing some major problems with two key products – the ID.3 and the Golf 8. Software issues are the culprit in both cases, and while deliveries of the electric hatchback haven’t technically been delayed (yet), the already built cars are in need of a software update before being shipped to customers this summer. As for the Golf, the situation is worse as customer deliveries have actually been halted, with Skoda doing the same with its mechanically related Octavia.

In this context, Auto Motor und Sport is reporting some major personnel changes are set to take place at the top of the VW hierarchy. It appears Porsche's CEO Oliver Blume will move to lead VW and help the brand deal with the issues that have plagued the ID.3 and Golf 8. If the rumor is accurate, it means Herbert Diess will step down from his current role as head of VW, but will remain chairman of the VW Group.

Oliver Blume’s role at the helm of the Stuttgart brand will allegedly be taken by Bernhard Maier, currently the man in charge at Skoda. It wouldn’t be his first job at Porsche as he joined the sports car marque in June 2001 to manage the sales division in Germany before being appointed in April 2010 as the boss of sales and marketing. In November 2015, Bernhard Maier was appointed as Skoda’s CEO.

This management reshuffle within the Group could also impact Jochen Sengpiehl, Chief Marketing Officer of the VW brand. AMS reports he could lose his job in the wake of a racist ad for the Golf 8 published on social media. VW took down the controversial video and apologized for the unfortunate ad, vowing to investigate what went wrong.

Reuters got in touch with VW to confirm or deny the report published by AMS, but the company refused to comment.

LoL...CEO is not the one designing cars. He only manages the company like what the title suggests. Like make sure VW doesnt cheat in the emissions test.

vw will looks and drives like porky ... huat ah!

At one point in time, they were looking at hand me down from Panamera to the A6.

I would imagine, that has been rethink. I find that idea to be quite similar to what SEAT had with the Audi A4 platform quite refreshing.

Ralf Brandstaetter Becomes New Volkswagen Brand CEO

ralf-brandstatter-volkswagen-ceo.jpg

Ralf Brandstätter is the Volkswagen brand's new CEO as a promotion over his previous role as the marque's chief operating officer. He takes over the role from Herbert Diess who is currently the CEO of both the VW brand and VW Group as a whole. The change takes effect on July 1. The company's board positions this change as letting Diess put a greater emphasis on running the business, rather than splitting his focus between two roles.

"Ralf Brandstätter is one of the company’s most experienced managers. Over the past two years, he has already led Volkswagen successfully as COO and played a key role in shaping the transformation of the brand," Diess said about Brandstätter's promotion. "I am therefore very pleased that Ralf Brandstätter will be forging ahead with the development of the brand as CEO following the far-reaching strategic decisions of the past few years."

Brandstätter has been with VW since 1993. He became the head of metal procurement for chassis and powertrain components in 1998 and later took a role as the procurement boss for SEAT in 2005. He has been COO for the VW brand since August 2018.

An earlier report suggested that Volkswagen's board intended to make Porsche CEO Oliver Blume the new boss of the VW brand. Skoda boss Bernhard Maier would have taken the helm at Porsche.

The shakeup comes amid VW having some problems in Europe. The company had to halt deliveries of the new Golf because of an issue with the software for the emergency call function – a mandated feature in Europe. The problem affected around 15,000 cars that the automaker had already delivered to customers.

There are also rumors about problems with the software suite in the company's forthcoming ID.3 electric car. The exact nature of the issue isn't clear, but elements within the system are allegedly not able to communicate correctly. There are reportedly over 10,000 technicians working to solve the problem.

Chey, what is the point here, every one can manage a company, big or small, maybe AMDK does it better, might as well manage the VW ( Visit Workshop ) design and engine peripheral side, loads of recurring issues has not been addressed properly.

How to we expect VW cars sell well? If VW really cares for their customer, thy should address the smaller issue 1st b4 embarking on bigger badge management operation side ?
