Should I claim total loss or pay 8k out of own pocket for repair?

Repair price sounds expensive. The damage might be quite serious?

Would it be mechanically reliable after repair?

If no, might want to consider to claim total loss.

Depends on what kinda car. If its a modern classic like a S2000, it's worth repairing n keeping

If it's juz a white goods B&B car, forget the trouble, take full settlement n send it to the scrap heap

I'm not worried about hit and run newbies. I'll be worried the day MCF no longer have any newbies. If Mr Newbie doesn't login again or for the time being, no loss to us. Thread will die on its own.  Let's stay positive here.  😀

I have come across quite a few posts from newbies, that are slightly off-topic, slight off-colour, but yet not totally irrelevant, mostly from foreign-sounding nicks, that add zero value to the discussion or threads.

I don't know if you know what i mean from the description above. I do not know if these newbies are genuine or have hidden agenda or trying to accumulate post counts. But if we allowed too many of these newbies to populate the forums with their "non-content", then i think it will start to de-value the forum.

Those of us (like me) who are keen on active and genuine discussions will then begin to find the forum a waste of time and turn away.

Food for thought.

Totally get what you mean. We actively flush out foreign accounts and ban them. Sometimes there are runaway ones. Just like COVID case, it slips under the radar.

Our thread starter posted under the FAQ section because he/she is unable to start a new thread. Some of these newbies signup for an MCF account because they are looking for immediate assistance after a hit & run, accident & claim issues, accident disputes etc. These are the ones who signup specifically for an agenda and I would suppose a good percentage of them may or may not return to the forum again, sometimes months or years later. This is actually quite common not just for forums actually, even on WhatsApp and Facebook interest groups. We can't change user behavior. If its a spam account, we'll block though.

I'm gonna stop at this post regarding the TS. Have a good day everyone!

When I had some petrol vouchers to share previously, I got a very fast response. I did scrutinize his account. He was handed the vouchers he requested for.

Later, out of curiosity, I had a check on his membership. He joined for a number of years, but, with 0 post! I was quite surprised! That means he had joined and just to lurked around for some form of benefits!😄

TS will have to check his insurance policy whether it allows for repair by third party workshop, or approved workshop only.

If it is the  latter, asking another WS to quote will not be appropriate.

The thing to check is to compare the paper value and the total loss amount. take whichever is higher.

That's an extremely effective and efficient lurker! Haha. I'm guilty of lurking around certain Facebook car groups as well.

Go JB get a botched repair job done.

Sell the car cheap and someone will buy for their MIL.

Let them drive to the end.

:D

Reuse, recycle, repeat.
