This BYD E6 is an old model. Among all China brands, BYD can be said to be the most well established battery maker, and they are also one of the first to start making EV cars.

Other than having a strong hand in making batteries. BYD also hired an ex-Mercedes man and ex-Audi man to tune the suspension, ride and handling and also in design respectively. BYD latest dynasty series (Tang, Song, Qin, Han) are great improvement products and available as EV, Hybrid and petrol. And their latest just launched BYD Han (a mid to large size) sedan is impressive in style and technology too.

Now that many people are using China made phones, don't be surprise that their cars are improving as fast as the pace of their phone and probably when the time comes, some of us might just be driving China made cars. Well their reliability has yet to have a long term proven track record, but Chinese are also some of the fussiest and high expectation lot. So don't be surprise that in near future, China can produce reliable cars as well.

BYD started out as a battery maker and is now one of the largest EV battery makers behind Panasonic I think. Panasonic makes EV batteries for Tesla. BYD started out making EV bus and cars back in the 90s.

But their branding and styling need to change. It has too much of the China made cars branding and styling for now. They need to hire European car designers to design their EV cars to appeal to international buyers.

Maybe in the future when they improve then we may consider this brand. Not now. The charging infrastructure is also not there.

Turbocharged

BYD needs to ramp up their marketing strategy here if they want to break into SG market. I’ve seen a lot of BYD running in China and took one on Didi. No complains.

later explode how?

I think the worry is not about explosion but electrocution for EV. Any car carrying any fuel is also prone to explosion. The fuel that we typically use in our cars are just as volatile if not more volatile than batteries.

Waterproofing the battery pack is more important because of where it's located. In the event of flooding or flash flood caused by rain the battery pack will be submerged in flood water.

This is the Han EV? Waiting for byd to launch their Song EV n see what's the step up from e6. First saw at motorshow oso. To break into the sg market with the e6 maybe not a very wise choice other than price point.. Singaporeans few concern still branding, reliability, pricing.. Not sure if byd marketing got address the reliability factor cause I dun read much of it online... The only byd we know is the taxi. But we are still far away from going full electric

Actually BYD Singapore should consider to bring in their plug in hybrid instead of trying to promote the green image of their electric cars by bringing in only EV, because charging an EV is still an inconvenient affair. At least the hybrid allows self charging and plug in option which to me is a better choice and price point wise, it could be even cheaper than EV.
