Curious. What's the implication of working in an insurance company - if any?

No offence but I think I'll let others go ahead with the vaccine first. That way, I can still enjoy herd immunity while staying safe from side effects. Honestly, I don't understand how you can say you'd rather risk the side effects without knowing what they are.

Basic precautions can already keep the risk of covid infection very low, even as we go about our daily activities now. Problem only happens when some idiots choose to flout these precautions.

No need to kay kiang take unverified vaccines - and like any flu vaccine, the protection will not last permanently anyway.

There is something we don't know about this virus.

It keeps coming back and the NZ experience suggests that this virus can perhaps stay dormant in many and flare up unexpectedly.

Have a feeling it's already in our environment anyway, and may likely be that some of the population have developed certain level of resistance to it - not enough to resist infection, but probably enough to lessen the severity of the symptoms. That's why worldwide, aside from USA and S.America, the death toll and new cases are tapering off. So long as no new strain gets introduced in the system.

There's still the hope of effectively "bypassing" a vaccine by mass deployment of a reliable, rapid (< 1 minute) coronavirus test, like a saliva or breathalyzer test.

I believe we'll also see significant progress in that field within the next 6-12 mths.

800 workers newly quarantined after discovery of Covid-19 patient in cleared dormitory

Quote

SINGAPORE — About 800 migrant workers have been newly quarantined because the Ministry of Health (MOH) discovered a Covid-19 case among them in a cleared dormitory.

The MOH said on Wednesday (Aug 12) that the quarantined workers are among about 22,800 who are still serving out their quarantine period.

"These workers will be tested when their quarantine ends, and we expect the case counts to remain high in the coming days, before tapering down thereafter," MOH said.

TODAY has asked the ministry which dormitory the case came from.

Who are these work pass holders?  If they are in the community, we should be seeing more Singaporeans and PR in the mix (given the local WP holders ratio).

As long as non dorm is community case.
3 essential service and 1 COVID19 frontline.

All detected via active screening

Interpretation:

a. There is community spread / cluster among WP holders (many of them are staying in shared housing outside dorms)?

b. WP holders are screened extensively, meaning there are a lot more SGeans / PR cases which has not surfaced. More tests, more cases?

Imported case since Jun 2 are 180 case of which 114 with India travel History

Within that 114:

15 Singaporean

21 PR

36 Dependant Pass

31 Work Pass

4 Long term pass

2 Student pass

2 Work permit

1 Short term pass

2 No information

Expected.. Coz India have a lot of undetected cases. Theirs I think is very massive.. Can fight with America, Brazil and etc if these people get tested properly. So yeah..

I had voiced that concern previously & was sweep away as unnecessary concern.

Incidentally, 4 of the 5 community cases were (likely) previous infections & the 5th case was linked & already in quarantine.

https://www.moh.gov.sg/docs/librariesprovider5/pressroom/press-releases/annex-c---13-aug-2020.pdf

From Jun 2 to Aug 11, there are 506 community cases.  There are 236 unlinked cases, of which 158 was detected via active screening.

Out of 236 unlinked cases, 77 are Singaporean (21 was detected via active screening).

New Zealand extends Auckland COVID-19 lockdown by 12 days

Quote

WELLINGTON: New Zealand on Friday (Aug 14) extended a lockdown of its largest city Auckland by at least 12 days, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced, as authorities struggled with a growing new COVID-19 outbreak.

"Cabinet has agreed to maintain our current settings for an additional 12 days, bringing us to a full two weeks in total," Ardern said.

Since four people tested positive on Tuesday - the first cases in community transmission in 102 days - New Zealand has detected a cluster of 30 virus cases.

Most of those cases have been found around Auckland, a city of 1.5 million people who have been asked to stay at home.

Worryingly, two of the infections were found in the town of Tokoroa, about 210km south of Auckland.
