My first car in Singapore was the 1.3cc corrolla.  A resales with few years remaining. Since then 1.0 swift to vios all I had owned them for 10 years till scrape. Currently driving a vezel brought in 2016 shouldn't be any exception I reckon. Abit old fashion. Hahaha

Good to drive your car to 10 years then change. But some people would say how many 10 years you can have in your life, so better change car every 4-5 year. Lol.

You bring your wife/gf to select a car but never bring a car to go select a wife/gf.

Won't last long.

Lol, it's a never ending itch for a car change.. But in times like this, looking to change to a ride that depreciate less may be a good idea.

This will be ideal but the problem is  one will suffer quite substantial loss the moment one let's go his existing car,  so it is not a straight forward formula of just changing to a lower depre one .

If you have a car that’s fully paid for , would you drive till 10 years is up or maybe change at 9th year etc ?

Depend on alot of thing. Your car omv coe.value

How much your car worth on the market etc etc.

U high mileage. Your car condition?

The 1 most important key factor. How deep your pocket and how much spare cash u have🤣.

My assumptions are:

  1. You do not have a car that no matter what you must drive tmr because YOLO.
  2. Your car is not giving you major problems
  3. Buying the next new car is not a big financial issue

Normally when using the car at its last COE year, you will enjoy the lowest depreciation for its 10 years COE life. So you should enjoy it unless there are problems.

Some people will prefer to sell the car while it still has some value. They may need this cash to help them pay for the downpayment of the next car. If so, consider selling earlier.

At this point when COVID is impacting the whole world, it is impossible for the COE to go up unless the government can come up with new schemes (e.g. new CEVS, negative growth rate, etc) to manipulate the COE up. So wiser to wait one more years for COE to drop further.
