have to agree, put the engine in the rear and its like front wheel drive in reverse.

Only bit is to see how to do a reinforcement that can withstand a crash from behind as  well as a way to have quick release that allow access to the engine for maintenance.

And if they manage to tune it so that it does not have snap oversteer like a mid engine MR2, that will be perfect
