Cadillac’s 2022 Lyriq electric SUV will have a 33-inch display that spans most of the dash.

The display will look like a single continuous screen, but it will actually be broken up into three parts under the same piece of curved glass.

The Lyriq will go into production in 2022.

Cadillac wants to make sure its first electric vehicle gets noticed. With that in mind, the automaker has shared images of the gigantic curved 33-inch display that will cover most of the dashboard of the upcoming Lyriq EV.

The electric SUV's curved 33-inch OLED display will serve as the infotainment system, instrument gauge, and control for lighting and HUD to the left of the steering wheel. Cadillac says that while the giant screen is separated into three individual displays, the entire screen can be used as a single unit—likely while the car is stopped and charging. Bill Thompson, GM senior design manager for UI, told Electrek: "The size of the Cadillac Lyriq display is a huge differentiator for us. The form factor is going to be very industry-leading. The huge 33-inch display is a very big differentiator for us, even among the other brands in our portfolio."

Thompson noted that the vehicle will have electric-vehicle routing built in and that the UI will "integrate those kinds of peace-of-mind features." He also said the system will integrate more human-centered information and alerts around GM's hands-free driver-assist system, Super Cruise.

The infotainment and lighting-control portion of the display will be touchscreens. As on the Escalade, a rotary controller in the center console will control aspects of the infotainment system. The Lyriq concept also had displays for the passengers in the rear of the vehicle. No word on what features those displays will have or if they'll even make it into production.

The Cadillac Lyriq will be the first GM vehicle built on the automaker's new EV platform using the Ultium battery system. The Lyriq will make its debut during a virtual event on August 6. It goes into production in 2022.

2023 Cadillac Lyriq EV Revealed: Impressive Range, Futuristic Styling

image.png.2c1257e987fc1b46c17dfad3ea3a8759.png

Cadillac may be a bit late to the luxury EV party, what with rival companies like Ford, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi already offering their own options – but at least it's showing up in style. The new Cadillac Lyriq electric crossover makes its debut today following five months of teaser videos and photos, succeeding a sleek concept with the same name.

The Cadillac Lyriq is the brand's first electric vehicle and the first of any GM product to use the new modular electric platform, powered by the company's Ultium long-range batteries. The Lyriq's 100-kilowatt-hour setup gives it 300 miles of range, level 2 charging rates of up to 19 kilowatts, and DC fast-charging of more than 150 kilowatts.

In terms of performance, Cadillac says the Lyriq will come in both a standard rear-wheel-drive configuration and a "performance" all-wheel-drive option. And with the Ultium battery pack positioned low to the ground and a near 50/50 weight balance, the Lyriq should handle decently well, too. The company doesn't say how much power the Lyriq produces just yet.

Visually, the Lyriq wears the brand's new design language, which incorporates a unique "grille" with distinctive lighting elements, multiple vents within the bumper, and very slim, vertical headlights. There's also a pretty interesting lighting element in the rear, with traditional taillights on the upper half of the body and angular LEDs down low. From what we can tell, some of those features – like the headlights and mirrors – aren't production-ready. Cadillac says that the Lyriq pictured here is a prototype that's about 85 percent finished.

Inside, the Lyriq has one of the largest infotainment displays anywhere. A 33.0-inch-diagonal LED display sits front and center, and it's a single, massive screen that extends from behind the steering wheel to the center of the dash. That massive screen can display over 1 billion colors, and offers readouts for things like battery charging and monitoring, an augmented-reality head-up display, remote parking, and the latest version of Super Cruise.

We'll know more about the all-electric Cadillac Lyriq closer to an on-sale date.
