Blablabla so now we know what a roaring hypocrite he is

Part of the problem but present himself as the solution

Actually if he put it this way means there's something wrong with our education system whereby we are not training ppl right for the jobs out there. That's what he's saying. The uni and poly are training ppl for our small domestic market demands. Then why are there so many foreign students here? He's toking kok what.

The root of the issue is still the high cost of living here. Jobs are not paying enough for ppl to keep up with the standard of living here. It attracts foreigners here cos the currency exchange is favorable to them. Take M'sian workers for example. The example of foreign workers he pointed out are from India,  Philippines and Slovenia, 3rd world developing countries. Their standard of living is it comparable to Singapore? Far from it.

The issue is still down to the cost of living here. Want to raise GST?  The situation will only become worse.

Same thing that's causing the declining birthrate. If the govt make cost of living so high here who will want to have more children? It's not sustainable. An so they use this low fertility rate excuse to bring in foreigners. Again root cause is the high cost of living that's stopping ppl.

The govt isnt doing their job. They are not trying to reduce the high cost of living here and they are not practicing prudent spending. Spend so much on Jewel Changi Airport which is just another mega mall and ignore Orchard Rd situation. Wtf is this? Spending like nobody's business on rubbish disposal buildings and renaming "Marina Bay" back to the same name. Wtf are all these? They are not even paisey. Still want to raise spending and raise GST.

Real talents are expensive and we will never have the local talent pool we need to compete globally, so we need to learn from the best.

If we compete with India and Philippines for outsourced type of IT business, we are dead.

Australia has a lot of good technology companies that pays very good wages.

Why cost of living is high and birthrate is low? Nothing else but due to import of FOREIGNERS just to raise the GDP!. It's a vicious cycle that bites the commoners most!

Talking about CECA, there is this idea bring up by my friend..

Rather then let many forginers in with EP.. Why not bring them in with need basis. Like say for example this company need a specialist skillset worker and need bring in forginers. Why not allow to bring them in based on in need basis for say 2 yrs for the forginers to train up Singaporeans. Once Singaporeans is trained up and could fulfil the job, that forginers would then return back to his home country. Then of coz with that government will provide rebate for the company that spend time and money to train up Singaporeans. The rebate could be tax rebate. This is to encourage companies to do that. So this will solve 2 problems. 1. Companies would be still able to have specialised skillset working to work in that company, 2. Singaporeans are hired for that specialised skillset job.

Workable?

In my view definitely workable but hor govt will not want to do this "sai kang' like got to monitor so many SME or company with all these work pass. Looking at their past way of doing things its always taking an easy way or one strike kills or kills many many type. So they wont explore your method though I believe majority will agree it works but not MIW.

If he’s really an IB, then he’s really low quality one 🤭

The same way he keep putting down SPC while pumping other brand 98 but yet asking when will petrol price drop is exactly the same way he think about politics - keep putting down opposition and voting PAP but yet asking why everything increase price.

If there’s no SPC as a check, do you think other companies will increase then back down twice for him to pump at a lower price?

Realized its a waste of my limited time on earth taking to him and put on IGNORE.

Thank you MCF for this function!

The very fact that our natural population is shrinking and the pap want pop growth (no matter how small) means that they plan to import foreigners on a sustain basis even tho they try their best to not talk abt it

But a very healthy conversation we need to have is what is the right level? I and I think most sg will agree negative pop growth is bad. Instead of having this conversation they head for gutter quickly pofma everyone and sweep under the carpet

What he's comparing is not apple vs apple comparisons.

Singapore businesses consist mainly of SMEs. To retain talent they have to pay high wages to keep them. How is SMEs going to do that? To have to deal with high rental and high salary workers. It's high operation cost even in crisis time.

He's always talking from a MNC's perspective. You have to look at what Sgp is and its businesses. Are SMEs able to keep up with the high salary demand of the local workers here? The govt instead tackle the issue by asking SMEs to reduce their demand for foreign low pay workers and hire locals. You think is this gonna work and will it drive local businesses to the ground?

Are they tackling the issue the right way?

Okay get you.. So it still need to have FT to come in because of some specialised skillset is really needed.. Then that bring another question. Cannot be SO MANY of these FT come in because they are just super specialised right? So there seems to be able to further tighten to look into is the FT that bring in is that really specialised that only they have in view of the company trade secret or technology is so new that Singaporeans do not have? Guess many ft that bring in are just work that can be done by Singaporeans in fact, where only very little of ft that bring in is of really very special needs.

It's the whole spectrum. From entry to very niche and senior leadership jobs.

Other than the very niche ones, many of those can be filled by Singaporeans.

Like @Adrianli had mentioned, what about those trade secret? What about those that the specialise skill needed move with time very fast.. By the time the person get trained up, the technology might already be behind and newer one took over? So he bring a very good point.. The main concern should be how many of such companies really needed this type of talent vs those that actually needed talent but actually many Singaporeans with normal degree holder with the right courses can do..

Anyway back to election.. My friend decided to split vote for amk grc.. He initially wanted to vote opposition, but seeing reform party like this.. He can't see to vote rp. Looks like there might have situation that there will have a lot of split vote..

I had advocated spoiling of votes when Opposition is like this RP before ie lousy. I was lambasted for wasting my vote etc. My point was and still is that if u have a significant % of spoilt votes say 4-5% in the constituency where the Opposition are shambles, it will still be a wake up call for PAP cos they will be looking how come the spoilt votes % is higher than the national average which is normally less than 2% if not mistaken.

So in your friend's case, AMK GRC shld easily see a 70% vote for PAP against such a weak Opposition but if they got 65% with say 4-5% spoilt vote, LHL and team will consider it as a poor showing. Admittedly, u need like minded voters to do the same. Anyway to each his own.
