He must have loved taking a piss at those 1200GS riders. 

The Germans are good engineers, but it's not their forte to come up with the simpler stuff. From Tiger tanks of ww2 to their cars nowadays, which one of them is a representation of a simple yet robust engineering solution? They will gladly adopt newer tech and chase after performance, than adhere to costs and ease of serviceability. 

Found it funny when the video poked fun of a particular part being there just because it's expensive. It's probably exaggerating things. But reminds me of the piezo fuel injectors in BMW's engines. Good stuff when it worked but simply more expensive to replace.

They were riding the BMW F800GS which are more dirt-oriented "adventure" bikes and not as popular as the R1200/1250GS for road trips.

Ewan McGregor's long way round/down tv series, in which he rode with a companion from London to New York City and London to Cape Town on the GS bikes, started the adventure bike fad and inspired many riders to do the same.

I think it's great that they are sharing their experience so that others who are interested can learn or be inspired from it.

The furthest I've ridden up north is to Boten, at the Laos-China border on a 2.5 week trip to explore Laos last Dec. If I had more time, I would have liked to go all the way Mongolia but probably can only happen if I was in-between jobs or retired 🤣

I also get very upset when people steal someone's motorcycle. People that steal bikes are scum.

Some people love their bikes more than their bf or gf.

Look how upset this big motorcycle fan is on motorcycle crime.

Someone said Ewan McGregor?

I now understand why he hates bike thieves so much.

Someone stole his beloved Honda VFR 800

and he hated the BMW GS replacement he got, absolutely hated it.

Once a Honda fan always a Honda fan.

We all have an evil side but how can you not love someone that loves a Honda?

Who knew this nice man was such a big motorcycle fan

and so knowledgeable about different bikes?

He hating the 1200GS should have given us a hint of his

encyclopedic knowledge of motorcycles.

and that's one benefit of riding small bike. Can put on train for the return leg (which he showed in part 3). Different experience for the trip.

btw I stayed at that hotel where the 0km marker in Mae Sariang is located but I didn't notice the numbers on it [laugh]

Salute to this young man.

I have more confidence in him getting to Europe than the other two.

Firstly he chose the right equipment. He is using a Yamaha LC135. 

The LC means Liquid Cooling and this makes all the difference.

More powerful than air cool and can do 130 kmh all day without breaking down.

And no problem servicing a Yamaha anywhere in Thailand.

And his smaller bike can lane split better in a jam than a big clumsy 1200GS.

He just needs to keep his passport in a waterproof pouch and keep it safe in his underwear.

Cannot fall off, cannot get wet and cannot get stolen.

The only bike better than a Honda cub or the Yamaha LC135 for this trip

is a Yamaha Tricity. The rough bit where the road is under construction

the two front wheels will provide a lot of stability and confidence.

Even my MIL will get to northern Thailand on a Tricity.
