LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB - 2020/21 Defending The Title

Some of the games over the weekend for Pool's competitors.

- United was very poor and do not deserve even a single pt at Brighton.  Brighton hit the pole 5 times in the game.  Ole is racing against the clock to bring new players in to beef up the squad. The 2-3 win greatly flattered a pretty pool Utd's performance.

- Chelsea's 3 goals scored to come back from 3-0 down to earn a pt were all scored by their home-grown players.  For the all the talks about Lampard's spending spree, none of new imports played well with Thiago Silva gifting a goal to WBA.  This is a rude introduction to all the new players. Welcome to the EPL.

- Spurs drew 1-1 against Newcastle via a very harsh penalty kick at the death.  Mourinho stormed off and for once, he is quite right to do so given the handball foul.. which is pretty ridiculous.

- City conceded 5 goals at home for the longest time in its history and Pep's history.  Leceister parked bus and hit them on the break. It scored 5 including 3 penalties despite having only 23% possession.  City's defense is in shambles and they had to splash the cash now ~ 65M on a Benefica's CB.  I am beginning to think that it is no longer the issue with players but the way Pep sets up the team to attack, dominate possession and play high the pitch.. to the extent that they have too many players upfront and leave so much gaps behind on counters.

Pool would wish to capitalise on these early season's stumbles in its rival and try to put some daylight in.  Hope Alisson can play while I always fancy putting Thiago on the bench first and call upon him if the Arsenal bus prove to be too strong to break down.

We should just focus on the 3pts of the next game. Klopp should get ready to rotate players every now and then. Wonder if Alisson pass his fitness test. Adrian is not good enough imo. Maybe should unleash Minamino for this game... in a 4-2-1-3 set up... Minamino just behind Firminho since Arsenal is expected to perform retrograde operations and Fabinho might start in defence.

I will stick with a 2-1 win.

‘Van Dijk & Koulibaly would be game over for Liverpool’s rivals’

Liverpool signing Kalidou Koulibaly and pairing the Napoli centre-half with Virgil van Dijk would be “game over” for the Reds’ Premier League rivals, says Stan Collymore.

Premier League sides continue to monitor Koulibaly’s situation in Serie A, with his qualities considered to be a perfect fit for the English top flight.

Liverpool have seen questions asked of their options at the heart of their back four, with Van Dijk needing a reliable partner alongside him.

i think it will be a conservative mf

if gomez if fit, fabino as base, gini and keita as the rotating 8

if gomez is not fit, fabino at CB, then milner, gini and keita as the mf

klopp nvr go swash buckling at least at personnel level, maybe swash buckling tactics

i got for a 3-1 Liverpool win

Not taking risk but to counter Arteta's tactics. Past two games against Arsenal revealed that they are likely to set up in 3-4-3. The 3 Arsenal forwards will press our two CBs and try to stifle whoever is our no. 6. One of our other midfielders e.g. Milner during the english super cup, will need to drop deep to provide another passing channel for the ball to get out to the wings or we will be relying on many long balls to Mane or Salah. Klopp might start in a 4-3-3 but let Keita (or Minamino from the bench) move up field to press Xhaka and link up with a deeper than usual Firminho. Both Salah and Mane will go narrow to press the two CBs leaving space for our deep-lying wingers to advance higher to pin down the two Arsenal full backs thus cutting supply to their forwards. We fail to do that the last match and Aubemeyang capitalise to score a goal. Thus our shape might eventually end up like a 4-2-2-2 for this game.

Sounds convincing bo? :D

Loris Karius has sealed another season-long loan deal away from Liverpool, returning to his native Germany to join Union Berlin.

Apparently no option to purchase.

What a pity that thiago is injured. Would hv brought a different dimension to pool's game. Not a lot of creativity fm the starting middle 3.
