Jamesc Hypersonic September 29, 2020 Share September 29, 2020 Arsenal are a very good team but this game they did nothing. This game is an illusion. It LOOKED like Arsenal had a lot of chances and a lot of one on one with our keeper. But this is because of the new rules. Most of Arsenal attacks were off side. Last time the ref will blow his whistle and stop play. Now every Arsenal attack that was off side the ref played on to see if a goal was scored or not. Only if they scored then the lines man will put up his flag and ref will stop play. So looking at the match people will go wow Arsenal had so many chances, so many one one one but even they score the goal would have been ruled out. ↡ Advertisement 1
Fooblack Supercharged September 29, 2020 Share September 29, 2020 Actually Arteta has done a pretty good job at Arsenal in the last few months since he joined. He had no previously credentials as a 1st team manager in the top flight. Arsenal did drop deep but they did not fully park the bus as they were trying to hit Pool with quick counters. The team did tried to play out from the back despite having so little success and credit should go to Arteta as he did not take the easy way out by playing long balls. He is true to his footballing philosophy which at least tells people they have a particular style of play. Arsenal is probably 1 or 2 players away from seriously threatening the order of the top 4 challenge. I think they will get better along the season but the problem is the 1st team is probably not good enough and they still have to clear deadwood like Ozil. For Pool after 3 games in, the level of intensity and hunger is still there for all to see. If we can keep this up, we will seriously stand a pretty chance to defend the title.

If we had bought this idiot Keane instead, then history could have been written differently... TAA indeed isn't the finished article yet, i hope, in terms of his defending. I think apart from Cafu, there isn't another right back who can contribute to attack so much, but we need him to be more solid at defending. Having said that, Neville was also not fantastic.

However still dangerous to play high line if the fwd on holi and def is leaky.

You must be talking about Souness who signed Nigel Clough. It was said that he turned down Peter Schmeichel opted for David James to replace Grobbelaar. He was offered Eric Cartona but decided not to take him. He bought Dean Saunders, sold him and sign Paul Stewart. Double Faint. He also bought Mark Walters , David James, Julian Dicks, Neil Ruddock and Mark Wright. It was a classic case of having too many old players and he needed to replace them with younger ones. He did that literally but with the wrong ones. The team he assembled would have dominated the Scottish league for years! Well, to be fair to him, he almost give his life for Liverpool. He had to undergo heart surgery during his reign i think. He actually signed someone like Keane: Neil Ruddock. Neil Ruddock left Andy Cole with two broken legs in a reserve game. Ruddock said that he did not mean to break both legs. What he meant was: he only wanted to break one of Cole's leg. I hope he only meant it as a joke. Last time there was a comparison which did not turn out well Red Cafu - Jon Flanagan that time Flanno was just breaking into the team, as there was no left back (before we signed Enrique) who could play decently. Now TAA is an established starter, and even plays for England, so hopefully won't jinx... Flanno was also not very disciplined and the team setup in any case, didn't allow the full backs to be bombing forward indiscriminately. It's better now at least.

He plays there in UCL finals when all else failed... He had played centre midfield at the beginning, and made his name when playing as attacking midfielder, while ended his career as DM, when he lost his pace. For England, he played left and right winger, which didn't suit him much. Yes, Finnan and Johnson were better. Even Arbeloa also decent.

I actually think Neco Williams is being pushed up so that TAA can oje day be considered for a midfield role. Before Williams, Klopp wanted to bring another youngster up before Camacho decided that he only wants to be a winger and not right back. TAA seemed to be entrenched in this RB role for now.

We cant blame him for the 30 year wait lah.. must start blaming from King Kenny until Rodgers. Some pple blame him for handing a lousy team to Evans. Evans' spice boys were young and exciting but lacked a midfield general. We had Barnes then Ince in the centre but not good enough. If only Gerrard and Owen were a few years younger. We might not need to wait 30years.
