Its so funny Shef Utd play with 3 tall, strong CBs

and we beat them with 2 headers from 2 not very tall players.

The 3 tall CBs should be heading everything away right?

The funny thing is people say (obviously not me)

that Pool cannot defend headers WITHOUT VVD.

Shef Utd attacked us from free kicks and corners

with a tall striker and their 3 tall defenders and

NEVER beat us in the air.

They can only score from a dubious penalty.

It was never a penalty in the first place as the tackle was spot on. Ref Mike Dean? Enough said.

Other than a occasion where he tried too hard to be like hansen and lost possession in mid field which almost led to a counter attack, gomez played well and covered for Fab who struggled for speed.

While the limelight was always on VVD, Gomez is like Klopp era's Carragher or Henchoz. He has been targeted as opponent avoid playing through VVD. He has to cover a goal scoring star right back who, without fail, will forget to track back and leave big gaps behind

It is easy to forget that he is only 23 though this is his 6th season with the Liverbird on his chest.  He already played more than 100 games while suffering ACL injury in 2015, underwent ankle surgery in 2018 and broke his leg in December in the same year. He went for surgery in early 2019 and recover in time for a substitute appearance in the UCL final. I hope he will step up to lead the defence during the absence of VVD.

Joe Gomez does not get enough credit.

When he played with VVD he did ALL the defending.

If you were a striker you attack Gomez and not the best defender in the world

as you think you have a better chance of getting a goal.

So all VVD did is stand around and looking cool.

So Joe Gomez did ALL the defending for the last 2 years.

People forget with VVD we let in 7 goals.

Without VVD we never let in 7 goals.

VVD costs us 75M while we bought Gomez for 3.5M. Even cheaper than Minamino. What a bargain. :D

PS: Matip even cheaper haha

he is the reason why we nvr went all in for de ligt.

he's fast, cover mistakes with his pace, reads the game very well for his age. probably direct distribution is the only area he can improve. but hell, VVD cannot ping passes like now when he was 23!

Well, VVD is rather good with his feet and can score via headers or direct free kicks. Gomez does not need to be a VVD but would love to see him growing to be a leader. Its tough for him as everyone except TAA is more senior than him.

Why we are missing VVD was due to the fact that we rely too much on him for leadership. Maybe Klopp cant help it as Gomez and Matip were always taking turns to get injured. Klopp once spoke against buying expensive players as one serious injury will make all the money go down the drain. Let's see if rumours about moving for Ozan Kabak is real.

kabak dun seem to have the attitude klopp likes. i think the RB player more likely. but he would probably be replacement for loverns / matip (whoses forever injured)

Upamecano? Its a pity that he signed an extension to 2023. If not he would have been on a free in the summer of 2021. He is 23 and has a release clause of 50M?

Anyway, we could be just advertising boards for those who wanna sell their expensive CBs. If we do go for a CB in January, he must be ready with first team experience in a top tier league.

Used to think that Brewster could be the point man if we play 4 forwards in 4-2-3-1 formation. True enough, Klopp changed the team shape to 4-2-3-1 on Brewster's first premier league start at Anfield.

Irony. :D

Everton who had a fantastic start to the season

has as many points as Liverpool who are supposed

to have had a terrible start to the season.

Sotong 2-0 Everton

Digne redcarded for "varred" proven reckless foul on a sotong player.

As the saying goes

Form is temporary; whilst class is permanent.

Their injuries/suspensions seems to be piling up.

Even with Ancelotti coaching skill, I think it's hard for the Toffees to break into the top 6.

Over time, it's clear that the blue side of Liverpool will slide to where it belongs

Maybe the best thing to happen over the weekend, other than our own laboured win.

Really karma. I already wished for the prick to keep letting in goals every match, since the high and mighty idiots do not want to admit their own mistakes to punish him retrospectively. So this is a good start.

And not sure if it's Ancelotti's instructions - if it were, then i'll have lost respect for him - to keep trying to foul opponents, even at the risk of badly injuring them, but from the replay, Digne was looking at the opponent's legs when he put his in, clearly planning to step on the heels of the running man. With this type of team, i hope they will end up fighting relegation instead.

The last undefeated side in the EPL this season is undefeated no more. The record should already have tumbled last game with Hendo's disallowed goal which was harshly ruled out.

Pool sits level on pts with Everton with 13 pts from 6 games. Not the 100% winning record we have been used to in the last 2 seasons.  this season, it appears that everyone is waiting for Pool to slip up.  that's the problem when you are on top and everyone is eager to see you fall.

Hopefully, Pool can build some further momentum in the next 2 games in the UCL then West Ham. The next game after that will be a trip to the Etihad where Pool suffered a humiliating defeat.

City themselves have the worst start ever under Pep.  Its problems are no longer just the defense but attack wise, they are looking pretty blunt. With Aguero facing another spell out of action, Pep needs to find solutions. They play Sheffield Utd away and by the way SU played against us, they will cause any team alot of problems with their physicality and whole-heartedly playing style.

the league table looks pretty weird with only Pool as the main contender in the  top 6.   Chelsea is 9th, Arsenal is 10th, Spurs is 11th, City is 13th and Utd is 15th.  If this continues on for another month, I expect to see some managerial causalities.

Yeah.. glad Ali is back with those big saves and the team wins it even with another screw up team refereeing the game

Hope VVD gets back stronger ...

Gone are the air of might which City has kinda started 3 seasons ago, when they started running away with the title early on, and swapped most teams apart along the way. That was followed by pool chasing them neck to neck till the final day 2 seasons, with the rest of the league only smelling the smoke of the two; which pool then maintained and City dropping out of the race early on last season, with the rest only looking at chasing for 3rd (again)...

This season, so many teams seem to have found some new formula concocted by covid, to bring the big teams down. While we started the season as maybe joint favourite, and then after losing VVD became no longer favourite, City - who took over as favourite - found themselves having only 8 points out of possible 15...

In top 8 at the moment, lie the unfamiliar sight of Everton, Villa, Leicester, Palace, Southampton, Leeds and Wolves. If the table remains this way after another 2 months, this will really be unprecedented - maybe more so than when Leicester won the title!

Anyway, Pool's form is really still worrying, and the bad luck doesn't seem to end. No idea why was it a penalty, and we had another nice goal disallowed... The only difference was that we still managed to get 3 points from the match. I still can't understand why opponents can put in good - sometimes through - passes, while we seem to have much more difficulty spotting such opportunities.

The team while trying out the new 4-2-3-1, didn't really fashion many chances and i think it ended up confusing opponents, the fans, and the own team alike. Not very productive until the equaliser, and still had to endure some nervy moments towards the end, cos couldn't kill the game off.

We need to find a way to give ourselves breathing space, by scoring more, and also be able to defend stoutly. TAA is still weak defensively. Week in week out, opponents' left winger seems to be get the better of him without too much difficulty. He needs to improve his defensive side. Robbo had a potential hand-ball penalty call ignored - luckily - so the whole defence needs to be careful now with their hands when defending. And odd bounce touching the hand, can result in a penalty. Looking at our luck now, better not take ANY risk at all...
