China happens to be NZ's biggest trading partner. Hence, lembek. Even the garang Duterte also don't dare to say out loud.

Most brotherhood one is Australia 😅

Yes they are, but a politician is also a good communicator to get people's buy-in. Somehow it works in NZ.

Kiwis have always been a practical bunch of people. Not too much of political-correctness.

For families who are separated, we're really dying for a travel bubble..

New Zealand pushes ahead with COVID-19 vaccinations as 62 new cases are reported

New Zealand recorded 62 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday (Aug 25), taking the total number of infections in the latest outbreak to 210 as the government scrambled to scale up vaccinations amid growing criticism. Most of the cases are in the largest city Auckland, while 12 are in the capital Wellington, the director general of health Ashley Bloomfield said at a news conference.

New Zealand's virus-free run since February ended last week after an outbreak of the Delta variant erupted in Auckland and quickly spread to Wellington. The outbreak prompted Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to order a strict level 4 national lockdown. Ardern's reliance on strict border controls and snap lockdowns to eliminate the virus has been called into question amid the latest outbreak, which has occurred while few people have been vaccinated.

New Zealand drops COVID-19 elimination strategy under pressure from Delta

New Zealand on Monday (Oct 4) abandoned its long-standing strategy of eliminating COVID-19 amid a persistent Delta variant outbreak, and will instead look to live with the virus and control its spread as its vaccination rate rises. The Pacific nation was among just a handful of countries to bring COVID-19 cases down to zero last year and largely stayed virus-free until an outbreak of the highly infectious Delta variant in mid-August frustrated efforts to stamp out transmission.

"With this outbreak and Delta the return to zero is incredibly difficult," Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern told a news conference in a major policy shift.

"This is a change in approach we were always going to make over time. Our Delta outbreak has accelerated this transition. Vaccines will support it," she said.
