Genesis officially reveals the facelifted G70 for the 2021 model year, confirming the expected adoption of the G80's fascia, and more.

Hyundai's luxury arm continues on with its athletic exterior design for the G70. This design language is enhanced with the sharpness of the two-tier headlights called Quad Lamps, accentuating the signature Genesis crest grille that now bears a different shape.

In profile, the G70 gets two lines to highlight the sort of muscular form. However, it dropped the twin LED turn signals of the G80 and exchanged it with side air extractors that are optimized for efficiency. The new G70 naturally gets a redesigned set of wheels. The rear end echoes the Quad Lamp from the front, while a shapely trunk that almost looks like a lip spoiler serves as a highlight, along with the two oval exhaust tips and body-colored diffusers.

Inside, the facelifted Genesis G70 boasts a driver-centric layout but more importantly, it hosts the latest connectivity options in a car. A new 10.25-inch infotainment system crowns the dashboard, featuring an exclusive Genesis UI design supporting the latest over-the-air (OTA, wifi update feature) wireless updates, Valet mode, and CarPay. Wireless charging has also been updated to accommodate bigger smartphones.

No powertrain specifications have been revealed yet, but reports have been circulating about the loss of the manual gearbox. We'll know more about this as we draw close to its official debut at the new Genesis G70's market launch in Korea next month.

Not sure if the "Superman" front grille is to the taste of many. It could well be a design that takes time to accept.

The pre-facelift's grille is more conventional, but there will be those who claim it is too nondescript and too Hyundai-like.

Still an interesting overall package and clearly improvements have been made to the interior. Getting there...

Interior is what the Germans have been doing to their last generation flagships.

Exterior wise, not too bad considering the latest W223 S-Class is looking increasingly unimaginative and decidedly Korean, especially it's rear lights 😁

Looks great but not sure AD will dare to bring it in.  A new luxury brand is not the easiest sell in Singapore.

In Australia, the G70 2.0T is selling for A$59k and the [less powerful] Audi A4 is selling for A$56k. A BMW 3 series starts lower also at A$58k.

Even though the G70 has better power and features, I frankly do not know many (if any) in SG who will buy a G70 when its more expensive than a more conventional Audi A4 or BMW 320.

Nice offspring of Lexus ES/LS and old design Merc!

Except for the ugly stick-on tablet.

Now that you have mentioned, the front bumper is indeed very Mercedes...

I find this latest Superman grille the best among all Genesis model, not overly large or edgy, and somehow brought some air of elegance into the package. In comparison, it the one on G80 & G90 look a bit too imposing and aggressive.

The grille on the pre-facelift G70 is too large and lack character, imo.

The two strip lighting.

Why must it be 2 straight lines?

As if crossing out something like a strike through.

This car is all beautiful curves and very organic.

The two straight lines is so jarring.

Wow, wow, wow! That front grille does it for me plus the two strip front lights... looks different but elegant... the grille has a very aggressive forwards stance which makes the car look very sporty... I think the G80's grille is very elegant but without the aggressiveness here in the G70... but the G90 grille is a fail cos it's just too big... but must also compare the angle at which the photos were taken... a family photo of all 3 would be nice... for comparison's sake...

Its based on a shortened Stinger platform, and the space is about that of a Giulia, ie, smaller than 3er, C-Class, A4.

Me think about $140-150K would be the right price level for the 2L Turbo. Bit more exp than the Stinger but $20k lesser than the base Contis with inferior specs.

I saw the pre-facelift G70 in Korea. It is very much in the compact luxury segment against the A4s, 3er, C-Class. Or closer to Asia, the Lexus IS300 and Infiniti Q50. Yes, it is definitely in a higher luxury level compared to the Stinger. The G70 2.0 starts from 58k in Australia while the Stinger 2.0 highest trim costs 43.8k tops.

Just for comparison sake, let's leave out the Big 3 Germans and pit the G70 against the IS300 and Q50.

Genesis G70 (pre-facelift):

Dimensions (mm): 4685(L) x 1850(W) x 1400(H), wheelbase 2835

Powerplant: 2.0T inline 4, 252hp @ 6200rpm, 353Nm @ 1400-4000rpm

Transmission: 8-speed automatic

Lexus IS300:

Dimensions: 4680 x 1810 x 1430, wheelbase 2800

Powerplant: 2.0T inline 4, 241hp @ 4800-5600rpm, 350Nm @ 1650-4800rpm

Transmission: 8-speed automatic

Infiniti Q50:

Dimensions: 4810 x 1820 x 1455, wheelbase 2850

Powerplant: 2.0T inline 4, 208hp @ 5500rpm, 350Nm @ 1250-3500rpm

Transmission: 7-speed automatic

In terms of size and specs, the G70 is on par with the two with only small differences separating them.

The Lexus was listed at $179800 (OMV $39k), while the 2 variants of the Infiniti cost $171800 (OMV $30.5k) & $184800 (OMV $34k). Both come with a VES Surcharge of $10k respectively. Assuming with the same $10k surcharge on the G70 (as with the Stinger 2.0 GT Line which sits on the same platform and shares the same drivetrain), I reckon the G70 needs to be priced between $175k to $178k to compete, all things being equal.

This, from a layman's perspective of course...
