we want a multi lateral world, not a unilateral world led by an exclusive club of ex-colonialists.

u are quite right on this. like china say, the new world order wont be in charge by a small group make up of a few countries.

every country big and small will have more say in world issue.

the old cowboy ways of shooting everyone that oppose you to global dominance are over.

trade, money, soft power , technology development will be the new way forward to be a superpower.

military hardware will be more of a deterrent then anything else.

Law of the jungle - a state of ruthless competition or self-interest…a system or mode of action in which the strongest survive..😁

since you propound the above, we shouldnt be surprised hearing russia, china, iran, etc all the msm report say this and that like they are out to get the west.

so now usa led system is just a veiled school yard gang if it is law of the jungle.

ever wonder how sk, malaysia, thailand, indo all suffered in the 97 crisis? and why the PIIGS didnt have to suffer like asians? heard of the term neocolonialism?

i cant claim credit for this. besides sg, numerous leaders of other countries and intellectuals have expressed that.

but on the other side of the coin, china is wooing many small states on its side. this means some small states will get tons of money and those with weak democracy will likely be swayed. but thats not new since usa also do that and far worse.

Singaporean must choose what best work for them with dignity. We don't want to be 2nd class in our own land. We are an independent state and can decide how we want our live. Not what others want us to be.

新加坡, 加油 !

This is my country, this is my flag

This is my future, this is my life

This is my family, these are my friends

We are Singapore, Singaporeans

Singapore our homeland, it's here that we belong

All of us united, one people marching on

We've come so far together, our common destiny

Singapore forever, a nation strong and free

Singapore is in that uncomfortable middle ground where we aren’t fully trusted:

Most Americans think Singapore is part of China, except those who’ve been stationed or worked here.

Most Mainland Chinese regard Singapore as 美国的盟友 (America’s ally) given the frequent presence of major US assets here.

Still some way to go in terms of being as neutral as Switzerland.

 Has to be really careful…😁

to be neutral you must have no foreign military spy assets like swiss, or Djibouti that have multiple foreign bases. sg sort of shares the bases.. but who wants to share a base if the us is already there.

Switzerland can afford to be neutral because they have natural defences (terrain), fortified with the Redoubt. They still have conscription (aggressive neutrality) despite all that. You mess with the Swiss, prepare to get your nose bloodied.

Singapore has nothing by way of natural fortifications. We're as exposed as a nudist on a beach. We need to ally with a strong power, preferably one without the interest or immediate capability to directly encroach on our meagre territorial sovereignty. China may not exactly be trustworthy on the last score, so that leaves the US/NATO powers as the obvious choice.

Southeast Asia would choose the U.S. over China if forced to pick sides, survey shows

Exactly right. Better an Eagle from far away without obvious territorial ambitions in the region than a Dragon in the vicinity that could very well gobble you up tomorrow. 😁

The US is the default choice, really. Provided you don't have a crazy person in charge. Dementia OK, but not demented. Biden OK, but not Trump. 😂

All jokes aside, Trump destabilised a lot of long-standing partnerships with his sheer insanity. You can't have an ally that up-ends previous agreements between nations, but that's exactly what that dotard did. Can't build long term relationships with someone capricious. Now hopefully it'll be BAU (Business As Usual).
