The business, Zion Auto Gallery, was registered under his wife.

Nothing new, under declaration of OMV and other stuff have been a common practice in the PI industry. And falsifying accounting by moving money between companies is an open trade secret too, not just in the PI industry alone, even listed companies are doing it.

These could have been news, in its own right - under-declare OMV, pay less tax, etc...

But in the light of what we learnt in the last week about how a billionnaire only paid US$750 in tax, then this tax evasion pales in comparison.

😂

Just for discussion, how can the 2.0 Forester OMV be so low at $13K, in the same league as 1.6L Kia Cerato & Hyundai Avante

Toyota Harrier 2.0 OMV is already $30K

million dollar question, this.

then when you consider if wanna replace let's say one LED headlight from the Forester, you'll likely be told the spare part already cost maybe ~$1k. Then still got the tail light, the engine, the brake, the ... everything else. maybe get another car in the strip it bare to be spare parts, also more worth it than buying spare parts separately... since OMV is only $13k...

MI bring bare basic thing into singapore for their car. Everything is local installed.

Rims are import as spare part, and many others components of the car. Spare parts don't paid for ARF.

This make the OMV very low.

Last time news was that the XV is assembled in M'sia. Maybe it has expanded to all the range.

The engine, gb, car structure and panels are from Japan, they ship them separately to the assembly plant in M'sia then from there they assemble and put together the car. If they ship the entire assembled car the tax will no doubt be high. So many other parts are not from Japan? LoL... I dunno lah. That's what I read for XV.

There must be a lot of loopholes in the system otherwise why would there be so many private car importers chut so many stunts?

It's nothing new but some ppl like to buy from PI especially those smaller companies. Seriously, do they know that the PI that they are dealing with is a potential crook? If they have the balls to smoke the authorities, how about the average car buyer? These crooks just give other PI a bad name.

OMV is including the Japan tax and shipping cost. Minus all that...really? The car cost so little to build?

Something somewhere is missing. Dont you think so?

It is relatively easy for our authorities to check on tax evasion for new car, simply by comparing the declared OMV vs selling price overseas.

But it will be a different story for imported used car, including classic and vintage model, which has been picking up its pace in the recent years.

That's why for XV , those CBU with 13-15 k omv, you'd notice have certain features removed to bring down omv, e.g. deletion of sunroof, electic driver's seat, auto dimming rearview mirror, High beam assist, Blind spot detection, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, reverse automatic braking all these to keep the omv down.

Later half 2019 to 2020 there are higher spec ones with all these features but OMV closer to 20K
