Nearly 1,000 households have signed up for the centralised cooling system (CCS) in the upcoming "forest town" of Tengah, where some 8,000 Build-To-Order (BTO) flats have been launched so far.

Home owners who opt for the energy-efficient system will save around 15 to 20 per cent in upfront costs and up to 30 per cent in life cycle costs, SP Group, which runs the system in Tengah, said on Monday (Oct 19).

The CCS is one of many smart features that will be implemented in Tengah, the town billed as a "smart energy" one powered by artificial intelligence.

Under the CCS, chilled water will be piped to homes from centralised chillers installed on the rooftops of selected Housing Board (HDB) blocks. This is more energy-efficient compared with conventional air-conditioning systems, said SP Group.

I read that it is using chilled water as the cooling agent. As cool as those use in our house?

Does that mean now bto comes with pre-installed Aircon?

The thing about centralised cooling.. Will centralised cooling run 24-7? Coz it need to serve the whole area instead one individual house unit per aircon unit. So run 24-7 how can it save money as compared to selective usage of aircon for individual house unit? Like maybe this house unit only use aircon from 10 to 2pm while the other use from 7 to 7 am?

Save money for user / flat owner.

It is maybe beneficial for those who use aircon long hours or on 24-7.. Not for those who on aircon for a few hours each day only..

In their FAQ,  the capacity is 9000 BTU and they never highlight any differences to split unit.

If the subscribers are savvy enough,  they should remember to safe keep all these information which could be useful later on.

WEST SIDE, BEST SIDE!

I stay in the west side.

Are you sure?

Loud and noisy F16 flying off and landing at Tengah.  Danger of air pollution from industrial sites in Tuas area etc.
