SINGAPORE: One person was taken to hospital with burn injuries after a fire broke out in a Yishun flat on Saturday morning (Nov 14).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it responded to a fire in a fourth-floor unit at Block 424A Yishun Ave 11 at about 9.45am.

"Preliminary investigation into the cause of the fire indicates that it was of electrical origin from a Power-Assisted Bicycle (PAB) that was charging at the time of the fire," it said in a Facebook post.

Anyway, those small Home Fire Extinguisher won't be able to put out Fire from a E-Scooter,those Batteries if shorted..is exploded...Fire very Big & bits of the molten Battery will ''fly'' far...hitting Curtains & Sofa & set them on Fire...Fire spread very fast...

As I have said before, UL2272 certification is NOT the magic pill for solving the PMD & PAB fire.

There are many factors that could have triggered the fire while charging, including but not limited to the following:

  • Damaged / faulty batteries
  • Damaged / faulty charger
  • Non original batteries and/or charger
  • Overheating (could be due to circuitry issues or failure of cut off device)
  • Hot surface coming into contact with combustible / flammable materials
  • Overloading of power point (fire could have also started from the socket)

And please don't ever risk your own safety by attempting to extinguish a PMD / PAB / Lithium battery fire. Not only the fire will not be able to be extinguished with even a 9 Kg fire extinguisher due to inherent characteristics of li-ion batteries, toxic gases such as Hydrogen Fluoride and Phosphoryl Fluoride will be emitted during the burning process, and not to mention the risk of being struck by the burning debris once the battery exploded...
