"The same rules and regulations remain – only cars that were launched and tested before 15 October 2020 will qualify for sgCarMart's Car of the Year Awards."

I do find rather peculiar that this event is not very well publicized at all.  Even googling "sgcarmart car of the year 2020" returns last year's page at the top of search result

Our sgcarmart and ST's car reviewers like kenna bought over by the AD, only say the good stuff...

Not always! I remember reading a review on the Lancer EX. The description of lawnmower and chain saw were used!

Don't let the Mitsubishi's sporty styling fool you. Or the large metallic paddle shifts on its steering column lull you into thinking it is a driver's car.

The Japanese machine, with design hints of Alfa Romeo, Volvo, Lexus and even Ferrari's Enzo, drives like a lawn mower and sounds like a chainsaw.

Where a car reviewer value adds is giving their opinion on how the car they are reviewing compares to the competitors in the same segment. Which one drives better, which one has more space. That's what pple watch reviews for, to decide which car after they have narrowed down to the segment they want. Our local car reviews don't ever have this kind of input, just reading out from the spec sheet and giving general feedback like fast! Smooth! Comfortable! Quiet!

They probably need to review a lot more cars to build up their knowledge base.

Don't think it's even a case of "building up their knowledge base" - more like they're afraid to offend their sponsors / advertisers so they just read from the script and make sure all the points that the sponsors want, is covered in their so-called "review".

I've yet to seen a Singapore "car reviewer" buy cars out of their own pocket and give an honest review about the car.

Are there even any such car reviewers/websites in Singapore?

Even in Malaysia, without COE, alot of the reviewed cars are loaned from fans... Once vehicle change hands its +1 vehicle count, I doubt their profits can cover the loss when they resell it after buying to test...

I know these awards are to be taken with a pinch of salt, but am curious as well how they are nominated. It can't be only new models that were launched within the year of the award, seeing that Mazda 6 won in its category for 5 consecutive years (but wasn't nominated this year). Any clue?

We should be able to get the answers here since those mods and admin work for SG Car Mart right?

It’s a nice change from the selling-oriented infomercials....opps, I mean ‘reviews’

But the owner sits next to him and u can see he’s trying hard not to offend. So still kinda non-objective in the end

That really depends on how much of a cunning linguist one is.

Before eat $$$, "This car drives like a lawn mower and sounds like a chainsaw."

After eat $$$, "This car drives like a lawn mower through the nondescript grass of the other contenders on the road, dispatching them with efficiency and poise, cutting through even the stiffest competition like a chainsaw through plywood."

Nowsadays hor, can just edit online articles any time. 😁
