Are HCW generally kept to the same ward day in day out or they go where help is needed?

Depends on the job leh. For radiographers, I know that there is rotation in hospital. Like one week, you visit wards, following week, outpatient, another week emergency department, another week inpatient, so on. Always rotate so that they will be familiar with every role, should staff go on leave or mc, can cover each other.

However there are some very very very lao jiao ones, they have fixed area.

Not sure for nurses. You will need to ask @Philipkee

No point in Covid-19 rules if hospital visitors allowed to take masks off for food or drinks

https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/health/visitors-to-wards-in-a-public-hospital-allowed-to-take-masks-off-if-they-have-food

I had 2 conflicting opinions when I read this article from mouthpiece ST.

It's obviously insinuating that the cause of the cluster is due to visitors taking off their masks to consume food/drinks within the ward. This is an obvious bias that its the locals (majority of visitors) who sparked off the new cluster. If this is the intention, then fark ST as not even the MOH has came to declare officially the strain which is going around, much less on who is actually Patient Zero (it can be an import or a local).

On the other hand, I'm surprised about the mask wearing protocol for ward visitors. It should have been a strictly no mask off policy for visitors and them consuming food/drinks within the wards strictly prohibited for obvious reasons.

Quote

On Monday, Taiwan said that except for its citizens, all those who had been in India in the 14 days prior would be barred from entering its territory, while returning Taiwanese face 14 days in centralised quarantine facilities.

According to the latest information on GISAID website today (3 May), the B1617 double mutation variant found in India has now reached close to 30 countries in the world, including Singapore.

In Singapore, there have already been 121 COVID-19 cases reported to have contracted the B1617 Indian variant. In fact, Singapore is now ranked #4 in the world with the most number of cases with this variant.

Last Tue (27 Apr), the World Health Organization (WHO) said that the B1617 variant feared to be contributing to a surge in coronavirus cases in India has been found in more than a dozen countries.

It said that the B1617 variant first found in India had as of last Tue been detected in more than 1,200 sequences uploaded to the GISAID open-access database “from at least 17 countries”. As of today (3 May), it has already spread to 28 countries including India, according to data from GISAID.

“Most sequences were uploaded from India, the United Kingdom, USA and Singapore,” WHO said last week.

GISAID is a global science initiative and primary source established in 2008 that provides open-access to genomic data of influenza viruses and the coronavirus responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic.

On January 10, 2020, the first whole-genome sequences of SARS-CoV-2 were made available on GISAID, which enabled global responses to the pandemic, including the development of the first vaccines and diagnostic tests to detect SARS-CoV-2. GISAID facilitates genomic epidemiology and real-time surveillance to monitor the emergence of new COVID-19 viral strains across the planet. GISAID was recognized for its importance to global health by G20 health ministers as well as the WHO.

Of the 25 imported cases announced by the Ministry of Health yesterday (2 May), 17 were found to be linked to India.

Hospitals to defer non-urgent surgeries as TTSH deals with spread of Covid-19 cluster
https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/health/hospitals-to-defer-non-urgent-surgeries-as-ttsh-battles-spread-of-covid-19-cluster

Preparing for the worst or ....?

Reason 1 : A lot of doctors, consultants, nurses and auxiliary staff have been placed on quarantine order or leave of absence because of suspected exposure to COVID-19 positive patients / staff. That leaves many departments and wards in TTSH short handed

AND / OR

Reason 2 : Shit is about to hit the fan. Time to buckle up.

I think everyone who is following the Covid updates know lah.

If Straits Times / MOH is diam diam all the way on the strain which is going around, can be sure the cause of the new wave at TTSH/ICA will consist of India's B1617. Likelihood of UK, South Africa mutations cannot be discounted as well.

If it's the original strain, splash on papers big big and blame Sinkies all the way. I can already read some articles over the past 2 days which are insinuating that's the case. Of course, I agree that some Sinkies really damn f**ked up with observing mask wearing/safety measures even today, but I am even more pissed that ST is still trying hard to cover up PAP's oversight for this new wave.

Obviously that will be the case. We import so many of them. Gave them so many citizenship and PR and now they all want come here. How to stop them?

What does PAP expect? Horrendous leedership over the years.

Don't forget for these returning citizens, PRs, short term pass, dependant pass etc is on 14 days stay hotel notice first, then after than its 7 days stay home notice if criteria was met.

The 7 days stay home notice is really gambling for people coming from India. This point is horrendous oversight, as a result of horrendous leadership.
