Parking Warden Allegedly Issues Summons For Illegally Park Funeral Vehicles

Singapore might be a lawful nation, but there are times when exceptions are granted for parking summons during events such as funerals or religion processions.

On Tuesday (5 Jan), a Facebook user complained about how a Certis parking warden was not being sensitive and compassionate when he allegedly issued summons to drivers attending a Jurong funeral. You can read the post in full here.

In response to MS News queries, Certis clarified that no issued were summoned for the illegally-parked vehicles.

Certis parking warden issues summon for funeral vehicles

According to the post, the Certis enforcement officer had issued summons for funeral vehicles parked near the wake.

This apparently happened despite the deceased’s family explaining that the undertakers had to park there to do their job.

The warden later took pictures of the funeral vehicles.

Officer allegedly issues summons for other vehicles too

Vehicles belonging to other funeral attendees were also not spared.

Despite the owners being in their respective cars, they were allegedly handed parking tickets. The user also claims that they were “not obstructing traffic in any way”.

Though the netizen understands that the warden was doing his job, he felt that the officer could’ve been more compassionate and understanding, especially in this situation when a grieving family is involved.

Security company says no summons were issued

Responding to MS News queries, a Certis spokesperson said that the incident happened along Senja Road on Sunday (4 Jan).

Contrary to the claims made in the post, the security company clarified that no parking summons were issued for the illegally-parked vehicles.

The cars were later “removed” by the respective owners.

Parking wardens have a difficult job on hand

Maintaining the law yet being compassionate when it comes to such sensitive situations is a difficult task that our parking wardens must work with.

We hope the issue in question will be settled amicably between all parties involved.

Bloody clowns lah, some of these outsourced minahs (and I'm including males under the umbrella term, for extra insult). No compassion, no discretion. It's a bereaved family!

Who knows?? maybe one of the residents might have even complained .......... Sinkaporeans are famous complainers for any inconveniences (just saying so)

I have seen many times, the multistorey car park is directly next to the multi purpose hall housing the funeral, but visitors still choose to park by the service road, for  their own convenience.

So it leads to congestion at the gantry leading to the car park & causes inconveniences to residents returning home via the 2-way, single lane service road.

Already passed through gantry and need to pay for parking, might as well park in the car park.

Most probably a case of someone calling in to complain, so the authorities have to do something.

But what many people don't know is, for such cases, the offending vehicle will simply receive a warning strip that looks just like a parking summon.

This is one of the way the authorities usually handle frequent complaints for landed property estates.

Agree, sometimes leniency will lead to abuse.

For such cases, I usually see the parking attendant standing there long enough for someone at the funeral to notify the drivers so they can shift their cars to the MSCP. Quite uncommon for a parking ticket to be issued immediately.

IMO he's just doing his job. If residents comprain, he has to come do his job.

Ppl attending the wake also should play their part and be considerate to other road users.

Let the dead die in peace.

Drivers broken the law by illegal parking(knowingly)

Law enforcement arrive.

Issue parking tickets.

Drivers surprise and complain.

Law enforcement retract parking tickets.

Whole cycle repeats again.

The report said the undertaker’s vehicles also targeted, maybe it is this type?  Can park in MSCP?  Lol

Dont think so. Most likely a van to stock up on supplies and to transport ushers home. Now got usher service, like waiters serving guests.

parking warden is just doing his job.

Certis should clarify in writing, who they can booked and who they should not.
