Aren't S-tronic and DSG the same thing? they just renamed it because it from different brand.

I think S-tronic will be better in term of reliability it is supposed to withstand 500nm of torque or more. You daily drive never whack it, I am sure this is more long-lasting.

I am driving a manual car. So I am no expert in this. Just kaypoh-ing. hahaha.

Which would you rather go with. Not car specific. Reliability is key concern.

These 2 are very different gearboxes used for very different category cars. The DQ is for entry level cars (VW Golf 1L and the likes) and the DL are for the more expensive cars (e.g. mid range Audis onwards)

The "DL" in the DL 501 = Longitudinally mounted (need to have large engine bays), these are not found in entry level or even mid range cars like the Passat. Yes, its a wet clutch and can withstand a much higher level or torque as well, so it should have better reliability.

The DQ200 is the dry 7 speeder which has helped VW attract many lawsuits around the world 😁

The DL501 (not 510) and DQ200 are fundamentally different gearboxes, so this question is not exactly valid as a matter of "choice".

DL501 - 7-speed wet clutch. Longitudinal layout, max. torque 600Nm.

DQ200 - 7-speed dry clutch. Transverse layout, max. torque 250Nm.

Should compare with DQ500 instead..

ya ya.. wet clutch great and long lasting

dry clutch great but higher wear and tear.. 3 year change car no issue, next owner take the bite. If intend to use 10years, please save some money for replace clutch pack to continue enjoy the fun ride..

Reliability concern then should go for wet clutch.

The new facelift Passat 2.0TSI come with 7 speed wet clutch DSG (DQ381). DQ200 only for Passat 1.8TSI, which is no longer on sales here (at least for now).

Or are you looking for a preowned unit? If that is the case, gearbox is just 1 small part of the consideration. I would check the servicing records and history first to see what the unit have gone though. No servicing record, no buy for me.
