Malaysian MPs cry foul over ‘double standards’ in COVID-19 quarantine for ministers

Malaysian lawmakers from across the political divide have spoken out against a decision to allow Cabinet ministers returning from official overseas visits to undergo a three-day observation period instead of the standard 10 days.

The exemption will be in place from Feb 9 until Aug 1, throughout the duration of Malaysia's state of emergency.

It excuses ministers from the protocol that all Malaysians returning from overseas must undergo a 10-day mandatory quarantine upon arrival.

KL to weigh risk factors for travel to home towns for Hari Raya

Travelling back to home towns for the Hari Raya break in May could be a reality if Malaysians continue to strictly adhere to standard operating procedures (SOP) and depending on risk assessments on the Covid-19 situation in the country, said the Health Ministry.

Factors to be considered in the risk assessments are the current daily cases, infectivity rate, intensive care unit capacity at hospitals, current Covid-19 situation involving infected health workers and the overall screening tests.

From a public health point of view, an acceptable rate may mean fewer cases of active and new daily cases that are within one to two digits and consistent across 14 consecutive days.

Referring to Health Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah's statement that interstate travel would be allowed once 70 per cent to 80 per cent of the population is inoculated.

Article did not say infected by which mutant strain. 🤔

40 healthcare workers in Malaysia who had both doses of vaccine test positive for COVID-19

Forty healthcare workers in Malaysia have tested positive for COVID-19 despite completing both doses of the vaccination, said health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on Saturday (Apr 17).

According to Dr Noor Hisham, nine of them were infected more than two weeks after having their second dose, while the other 31 workers were infected less than two weeks after getting the second jab.

Another 142 healthcare workers were infected after the first dose, while 244 workers who contracted the disease were not inoculated.

"It is clear that we still can be infected after completion of vaccination," said Dr Noor Hisham in a Facebook post on Saturday. "No one is safe until everyone is safe."

However, he also said that vaccinated healthcare workers had less severe COVID-19 symptoms.

For that 40 HC worker, the gap btw infected vs 2nd dose is an important information

For me, the biggest plus point is reduce severity if tio.
