Knocking sound from wheels (under carriage)

My Hyundai Avante (70,000km) is giving me this issue and seeking advice from anyone who have experienced this before.

Six months ago, I observed a knocking sound coming briefly (about 2-3 seconds) from the front driver-side wheel area whenever I start moving off the car in the morning. The sound disappears after that till next morning. So I ignored it. However, last few months I have been driving long distance daily (~200km) and the problem has been getting worse. The sound is very frequent every time I make a turn and very obvious at slow speed. I could not notice this sound when driving in expressways. From yesterday evening, the front left wheel side started giving the knocking sound and it continues even in higher speeds/expressways and now the issue is a nuisance and I need to fix this.
1)  Is it a risk if I continue driving with this issue?
2) What could be the cause of this issue?
3) Any reliable and reasonable workshop that specializes in Korean Cars/this type of issue?

Thank you in advance!

Yeah. It is bushing or mounting. No hazard in driving, maybe just uncomfortable only.

I will recommend changing the whole set. The labour cost is more than the replacement parts.

Where do you stay? Maybe I can recommend somewhere near you. No point travelling so far for the repair.

2) What could be the cause of this issue?

- This is wear and tear issue lah. Nothing serious. Some last longer, some give way faster. 70K consider good le.

if road is even for example on expressway there is no sound, but once u go on uneven road, got kikikokok sound, u can try changing the absorber linkage and the coffin bush first ( cos this 2 very cheap, even if try and error wrong wont cost u much)

if moving got no sound, but at stationary position u turn the steering wheel left and right got kikokiko, could be the tie rod and rack end,

absorber and absorber mount some time also got sound.

but the best thing is visit a ws let them take a look,

even the best doctor cannot cure your illness with just a few sentence right??😁

I stay in North-West. My current workshop could not diagnose/solve the issue during last servicing.
Can anyone recommend a reliable workshop in Bt Batok, Toh Guan, CCK, Woodlands area?

  • Front Link x 2
  • Front Bush x 2
  • Front Top Mounting
  • Rear Absorber x 2
  • Rear Bumper x 2
  • Rear Link x 2
  • Rear Bush x 2
  • Assist Arm x 2
  • Rear Top Mounting x 2

Price quoted: Parts $2,882 and Labor $760. Total $3,642

A workshop in Bukit Batok checked and proposed to replace almost the same parts (except for Rear top mounting)
Price quoted: Parts (some are original and other parts are Korean) and Labor (including wheel alignment)  Total $1,508

Job was done and test drive in 4hrs. No more sounds. Drive is as smooth as brand new!😀

Does both workshop know what they are doing?

Basically they are both proposing to change EVERYTHING that can be changed in all suspension parts.

I didn't know it was this easy to earn money

Most impt spent the money and problem solved. Not many Coe car owners so lucky. And considering the age, it’s worth to change all together. U save time and labour again down the road.

The mechanics from both workshops took a look and inspected the car, you didn't... so on the balance it would seem advisable to listen to them and expect that they know what they are doing...

On the hind sight, it would be good to change most under carriage wear and tear parts to get optimal performance.

Made good business sense too, of course.
