It is no shame to be new to car buying. Instead of saying things and embarrass themselves like 20 years never step into the car showroom.

A sales person suggest OT to you? He/she thinks you cannot afford to buy the car is it? Haha...

I can tell you what to expect so that you dont make a fool of yourself cos what you ask ppl they will know where you are coming from. Because they see all sorts of folks walking into the showroom.

For authorized dealers...when it comes to discounts and freebies it is fixed for every customer by the car dealership. No special discounts for individuals. I have come across very thick skin individuals who keep pestering the salesman for more discount while I was test driving a car. They keep calling and ask for discount. As long as their father did not open the dealership whatever discount and freebies...it is fixed. If you want more discounts wait for special sale events or sgp sale.

It is good that you do not want to consider OT. It is basically used when ppl dont have cash to top up the shortfall even after trading in their existing car and taking 70% loan. In other words no money. Everything is inflated so that you take a much bigger loan and pay a lot more interest. Like say after discount and everything your car cost 100K but the amount of interest is like the 1st two year of  installments you are just paying interest alone. Havent even begin paying the 100K yet. That is how bad it is. If you get into financial difficulty and cannot pay the installment you will be in a shitload of financial trouble cos interest will add onto your late payments. Most ppl cannot get out of it and became broke. Dont think that selling your car will solve your problem. Ppl fall into a lot of debt with the same thinking.

It is ok if you dont know how to work out the sums cos the salesperson will take care of it. As in you guys will sit down and do the math on a piece of paper. If he or she start putting OT into the picture means it is out of your budget. You can still save yourself and tell him or her you will consider the offer and let him/her know on a later date.

So my advise is to choose a hat that fits your head.

I don't agree that discounts and freebies are fixed for all customers. It's eventually falls on bargaining power of the buyer and how much the SE is willing to accommodate to secure the sale.

Generally the success rate is higher for models that have been out for a couple of years.

Driving Performance - All-New NX 350 2.4 Turbo Engine

The new lower center of gravity and enhancements in vehicle rigidity allow for a higher horsepower 2.4 turbo gas engine on the NX 350. The new 8-speed transmission provides the gas-powered Lexus NX the feel of a performance vehicle with the higher perspective of a crossover utility vehicle. This is made possible by improvements to torsional rigidity through laser peening welding and the addition of high rigidity foam, both Lexus firsts. The twin hood lock, also a brand first, adds front lateral flexural rigidity and improves the aerodynamics of the vehicle.

The exciting turbo gas-powered engine boasts an estimated 275 horsepower and 430 Nm torque. Combined, these result in a 0 - 100Km/h time of 6.8 seconds, a half-second quicker than the previous model.

Additionally, the NX 250 provides a naturally aspirated gas engine to round out the options for guests interested in a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder gas engine with start/stop functionality. With an eight-speed transmission, this model is available in both FWD and AWD options. Delivering an estimated 203 horsepower and 250Nm torque, combined results in 0 - 100Km/h times of 8.2 seconds (FWD) and 8.6 seconds (AWD) respectively.

Performance and Range with the NX 450h+ Plug-In Hybrid

In a first for Lexus, the new plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) system brings Lexus Electrified to life through performance and the signature quietness of a PHEV model. The NX 450h+ has a manufacturer-estimated 36-mile range on electric power only, made possible by the newly developed, high-capacity lithium ion battery. The system achieves the EV output equivalent to a 2.0-liter engine. When combined with the newly developed hybrid transaxle, a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine delivers on the performance luxury guests are seeking with an estimated 6.0 second 0 - 100Km/h time.

A high-output, high-efficiency system designed to reduce power loss when converting from AC power to DC power, results in shorter charging times. Using the maximum charging current of 240V, the Lexus NX plug-in hybrid can be fully charged in approximately two-and a-half hours when equipped with the optional 6.6 kW Expedited Onboard Charger. With the standard 3.3 kW on board charger, charge time goes up slightly to four-and-a-half hours.

The NX450h+ employs an electronically controlled, full-time AWD system for a confident, sporty driving experience. Optimizing front and rear torque distribution according to the driving conditions, the driver can control the vehicle as intended. In turns, the NX AWD provides exhilarating yet elegant control for normal to aggressive driving styles.

Predictive Efficient Drive couples with the navigation system, learns driving habits, predicts the expected roadway ahead and analyzes real-time traffic reports to optimize charging and discharging of the hybrid battery. The more miles the NX is driven, the more data is gathered to help optimize fuel consumption. The system also uses accumulated knowledge about a driver's behavior to predict when and where the vehicle is likely to slow down or stop. For example, when the Lexus NX approaches a location where the driver has slowed or stopped in the past, and the driver releases the accelerator pedal, Predictive Efficient Drive increases regenerative braking, allowing more efficient energy to be recovered and recharged into the hybrid battery.

Hybrid Combines Performance and Fuel Economy

With the all-new Lexus NX 350h, guests can have both great performance and fuel economy. With a combined 239 horsepower (a 20 percent increase over the current model) and impressive manufacturer estimated 36 MPG (an increase of 6 MPG over the current model), the NX hybrid brings a powerful performance that illustrates the brand's hybrid leadership. Guests will also notice the quicker 0 - 100Km/h time with 1.5 seconds shaved off the time from prior generations at 7.2 seconds.

The Lexus Hybrid Drive system pairs the D4-S fuel injection 2.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine with two high-torque electric drive motor-generators for strong acceleration and passing performance. Instead of transfer gears and a driveshaft to the rear wheels, the AWD system employs a second, independent electric motor to drive the rear wheels when it detects it is needed to help maintain optimal traction.

My grouse is that the new NX retained the slightly tall and narrow stance of the old car.

Also, the overall shape/silhouette looks too similar to the Harrier. Yes, I know they are the same car underneath.

I find look much like the cheaper Mazda CX-5. Agree that the taller and narrower stance does not make the car stand out among its peer. Maybe I am bias but the new BMW X3 LCI look better in almost every aspect.

I wouldn't say it is sleek, but less intrusive and better usability than the previous version. Overall, a big leap in the interior layout. [thumbsup]

Supercharged

As current owner, had a close look at the new model, here are my comments:

1) Many small things copied from the Germans - mostly bad stuff that will make things more difficult to service or costly to replace

a. RFT tyres and no spare tyre (at least on all the models shown)

b. dual hood latch rather than traditional Jap single latch

c. Wheel bolts rather than traditional Jap wheel nuts

d. Huge 20" wheels mainly, there are 5 x 20" rim options and 1 x 18" option... crazy

e. Most of the functions used to have nice physical button, now become soft button simulated by touch-screen.

2) So much cheapo gloss black plastic..... very low class

3) 7" LCD instrument looks like a very slightly improved version of the current disaster inside the ES/UX. Still looks quite behind the competiton

4) The much hyped infotainment is much much better than the current Toyota based one, but it is still far from the German standard, and the look-and-feel is almost totally like Windows 10... just not very great feeling.

5) The cabin is just masses of black featureless plastic similar to UX.... think current model even try harder to break up with stitching etc. looks pretty un-luxury.

6) E-Latch is super gimmicky.... they seem desperate to show some unique tech

7) Current model suffer from very low-grade materials compared to the competition... mostly hard plastic in cabin. Not sure if that has improved, but from the videos, looks likely to continue.

@t0y0ta one of the sales texted me to view this NX but I didn’t accept the invitation.

Dont bother to go see early bird.

Just wait a few weeks all the models lay out in their showroom wait for you to molest.

Also, first 1 year (+ current stock constrain) will be chop carrot pricing.... no point even considering.

Cause Lexus is design with US market in mind. In US, people still prefer high CC engine

thats a pity. I really don't need the power in Singapore. No way to use it.
