And it is always India is the Best! my ex colleague in India even claimed that the best Chinese food is in Bangalore, India. 🤣 This was made during dinner in a Chinese Restaurant in China. After which he used his hands to pick and choose food from the dish that was shared in middle of the table, even though there were serving spoons/chopsticks. Obviously everyone got turned off and the dish was not touched after. 😁 Edited March 12, 2021 by Mkl22 ↡ Advertisement

Song written and sing by this person. Not those self-proclaim within the country. I want to see whether I know this name or not. I wanted to quote Jai Ho, but @Adrianli already did the honours. Not sung by the composer (that's a ridiculous criterion to include since most popular singers don't write their own material anywhere in the world) but it won the Academy Award for best original song. You tell me what has Singapore done to beat that, or even come close? 1

That's wrong. But again, the bad behaviour of one or a few bad apples shouldn't taint the whole bunch. Once, at an Indian veggie restaurant in Little India with a damn nice buffet spread, I saw an Ang Moh woman use the ladle in the main desert bowl to just taste it then place it back. I never went there again. All races got badly behaved individuals. Edited March 12, 2021 by Turboflat4
SGCM928 3rd Gear March 12, 2021 Share March 12, 2021 Am I the only one which is annoyed by the shameless act of copying someone else work?? 😖😫 Although the original "Count On Me Singapore" was not written by a fellow Singaporean (https://www.asiaone.com/node/30820#gsc.tab=0), but it is still one of our national song, which we Singaporean sing with pride. What rights does the Indians has to take it from us, change just a single word and sing so proudly as if it is their national song?

What rights does the Indians has to take it from us, change just a single word and sing so proudly as if it is their national song? Given the number of critical posts in this thread alone (including mine, early on) plus all the downvotes on the YT videos *plus* the comments saying exactly the same thing on the one video where comments weren't blocked - how can you possibly think you're the only one?🙄 But the fact that the song was composed by a non-Singaporean to begin with adds an extra dimension of interest. I didnt actually know that, thank you. Still doesn't lessen the cheap act of plagiarism by these jokers. 4

Lala81 Hypersonic March 12, 2021 Share March 12, 2021 Personally, I've nothing against the use of the song. I mean it's just like how we change the "saints go marching in" all the time. As long as credit to the original composer and people understand the original lyricist/composer is from Singapore, that's important.

South Indian rice meals (banana leaf type) are meant to be eaten with the hands. But North Indian briyani rice can use spoons. Kind of expected, actually. Oh, and speaking of difference in cultural norms, Indians as a rule don't share food communally. We are scandalised by even minor salivary contamination of our food by others. The joker @Mkl22 mentioned (the one using his grubby hands in the shared dish) likely had poor upbringing. But Indians generally don't do that, or would severely frown on you for that. But by the same token, I am really grossed out by the Chinese eating practice of using one's own chopsticks to take food from a central shared dish. That level of salivary contamination is just not good etiquette in my view. But many Chinese do it and think nothing of it (or at least, didn't, before COVID-19). That's a major difference in cultural norms right there. When I eat at Chinese veggie restaurants, my friends defer to my discomfiture by asking for separate utensils for the shared dish and keeping it clean. That's considerate. ↡ Advertisement
