actually i am curious if they choosing manual or auto model 😁

Best to have both options- one for city and base driving, the other for rugged overseas training and elevated driving experience.

One bro mention earlier, highly unlikely to get G class for SAF colonel and above to drive such expensive & branded off roaders, they have already removed Military vehicles for high ranking opicers on duty, no more personal driver been deployed per car.

The monthly salary is more than enough to pay for such trip, thy rather get a normal Jap / Korean SUV/ MPV car for personal use .

Ya should have done it earlier. Already lack of manpower, so do these needless duties for what? Driver for commander, driver for CO. What a waste of manpower. At most a driver for CDF and for each the chief of army navy and Air Force.

I don't think Govt is going out of its way looking for a sleek good looking replacement. Below might be their pre-requisite which may end up with a very different looking vehicle. Feel free to amend or append:

  • Meets operational needs
  • Meets budget allocation
  • Align with Green Plan 2030
  • Protect vehicle occupants from being crushed by an armored personnel carrier (This one's a maybe)

The exact replacement for current Defender in terms of function, off road capability and flexible configurations is the Land Cruiser 70 series.

Should be a no brainer if SAF is really serious.

Land cruiser 70 series only has the 4.0l diesel I think. Should be a drinker.

LC70 series has the option to be fitted with a reserve fuel tank to extend its operational range. And it's not those external fuel drums carried at the back, but it's located at the undercarriage. Up to 180L of diesel can be carried for exceptional range, on certain configurations of the LC70.

There's a 4.5L V8 turbo diesel commonly specced on civilian variants selling in Australia and a 4.2L inline six NA diesel. The 4.2L inline six is the one which is truly the reliable and simple workhorse of an engine.

But the SAF might reject the 4.2L, as its definitely down on power compared to the more modern turbo diesel powerplants. And it definitely won't be Euro 7 compliant in the near future.
