Mediacorp actor Shane Pow jailed 5 weeks, fined for second drink driving conviction

Back in 2001, Sharon Au was charged in court for using her handphone while behind the wheel. At that time, Sharon said that she’d answered her phone while driving as she was expecting a call about an upcoming show she was set to appear in.

She was later fined S$800 and banned from driving for six months.

Terence Cao was charged with drink driving in 2005, after failing a breathalyser test. Reports at that time claimed that the actor “created a scene at the hospital” and had refused to give a blood sample. He was later fined S$4,100, with his driver's license suspended for two years.

Christopher Lee’s drink driving scandal was the biggest celeb news of 2006. The actor had knocked down a motorcyclist and his pillion rider while drink driving, before fleeing the scene.

He was then jailed for four weeks, fined $4,500 and banned from driving for three years.

In 2013, Quan Yifeng knocked down a pedestrian at a traffic light junction while making a turn when the signal was green.

In court, Yifeng explained that she was merely following the car ahead of her, and had neglected to check if the junction was clear of pedestrians.

She was subsequently fined S$800 and banned from driving for three months.

In 2016, the actress knocked down a stationary motorbike with her black BMW in a Clementi car park. The issue blew up in the media after it was reported that she had asked the owner of the motorbike, Do you know who I am? .

Rui En later said it was a misunderstanding and that she was simply trying to convey that she lives there and so wasn't going to run away.

The motorbike owner also claimed that Rui En “smelled of alcohol” but the courts later found that there was “no element of drink driving involved . The actress was eventually charged with careless driving, and fined S$700.

In 2017, the late Aloysius Pang was charged with drink driving after failing a breathalyser test. After pleading guilty, he was fined S$2,000 and banned from driving for 18 months.

The Tanglin actress was stopped at a police roadblock where she failed a breathalyzer test in 2019. The police officer who stopped her later testified in court that the actress “reeked strongly of alcohol”.

Roz was then fined S$1,750 and banned from driving for 15 months.

 

Accidents do happen. Celebrities are humans just like us and not spared from making mistakes but drink driving IS by choice, not an accident.
