Aiyah, if he is of Ministar calibre, the response would have been much better. Much much better. Like

"What do you think?"

Or

"What is the point of the question?"

:D

The Um-tionary [thumbsup] [thumbsup]

1. Umbrage - to be slightly offended, popularised by an ex-General during an unfortunate press conference event

2. Um-gan: 暗干 to curse at someone in silence

3. Um-bai: 暗牌 colloquial for spy

4. Um-chio: 暗笑 to gloat over someone, usually at his misfortune

5. Um-gang: 暗杠 to score a lucky goal

6. Um-um lao bak sai: 暗暗流泪😭 to weep in silence

Now to string them all in a story:

The General took umbrage at a reporter’s question during a press conference, he um-gan the reporter when he thought she insinuated he will be a lackey for the establishment even after he restructure the company.  Not realising that the reporter was actually a um-bai planted by his rival, he went ballistic and incurred public wrath. The um-bai camp um-chio over their um-gang, while the General um-um lao bak sai after he was forced to apologise.

:D :D :D

So he must be UM Dui 暗锤!

Pritam, Iswaran spar on funding, editorial independence of SPH's new media entity
https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/politics/pritam-singh-and-iswaran-spar-on-funding-editorial-independence-of-sphs-new-media

In response, Mr Iswaran said he would venture that a culture of editorial independence already exists in Singapore's news media.

Really?  How can we rank 160th in press freedom then? Something don't add up.

From Mustsharenews:

This is the 1997 printout from TNP that Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh shared in Parliament today (10 May) to highlight his point on editorial independence in Singapore.

He added that the only thing objective about the page is the EPL scores below. 🤣🤣

Communications & Information Minister S Iswaran  had said earlier that Singapore's media already has a culture of editorial independence.

"We do a disservice to our journalists and editors to suggest anything to the contrary," he said.

The Journalists and Editors in SG media... they are just in the job to make their daily living.

Editorial independence I don't think is important to them otherwise they long already jump to other jobs already.

Honestly if I am in their shoes I also do the same.

Yep, can see quite a few ST reporters and editors spoke out only after they left.
