No. It is foot operated.

Latio foot brake also got the loud sound when you engage it.

I felt safe hearing that sound when engaging hand or foot brake, very comforting...

Yes indeed.

The sound is an indication that the mechanism is working. 🙂

Yes personally I like to pull handbrake more than stepping foot operated one.

Add. I never heard of handbrake spoiling even old cars

My Hyundai accent.  Manual.  First few times handbrake could not stay up. One time button dropped out of handbrake [jawdrop]

KMC did not tell me what was wrong.  Just that they replaced the entire handbrake set.

Hence that fine day some time ago when i went to test drive the Toyota Altis, many times when after coming to a stop at red traffic light i pulled up the handbrake lever in one swift move, fast and furious, as i wanted to rest my foot or wiggle my legs.

The SE she seemed worried and concerned and advised me that one should press the button at the tip and then pull it up, smoothly, not so abrupt and hasty as what i had done.

She is absolutely right.

But its very simple.

After you buy the car pull as hard as you like and make as much manly noise as you want.

Since you only test drive and its not your car respect the SE advice.

i seem to remember reading somewhere though i cannot remember now where ..

handbrake (as in the traditional pull up type) should be pulled up without pressing the button .. the button is a safety device to ensure that the handbrake will not be released by accident .. to be released it needs the button pressed ..

this is like the traditional automatic transmission where you must press a button before you can shift to reverse so that reverse will not be engaged accidentally ..

that means to engage handbrake just pull up (yes i know some people equate that sound to wear and tear somehow) but use the button to release ..

Nope.

If I asked her that then she might think it's sexual harassment. So nope.

Well.... then I go test drive again with her again this weekend.

I shall operate the handbrake as she had previously advised.
