Thought it looked like Volendam... very nice... so well travelled... your kids really have a great dad! Hope mine got chance to travel... with this pandemic... not sure when can travel with them... still got a bit of time with one 2 years and the other two months... hopefully won't drag out too long... Time with family is the most precious....nothing beats that...there will be a time when the kids will not join you on a vacation, so start early as they say, have a longer runway to spend with the kids... Savings spent on the family vacation...well worth it...priceless!! ..my kids have been travelling with me and wifey since they were very young....treasure the time with them..

I did a trip down to AU/NZ with my sisters and bought along my parents as well....basically the whole clan.....in the plane, the stewardess was amaze and asked us is this the whole family...i told them 3 generations here, please inform the pilot to flyrive carefully......that was one fine trip to remember.. 1

You are right, I think Hokkaido might not be as clear as this during winter...i have only been to Hok during summer....hence planning a trip during winter. So far, basically covered Japan pretty extensively....family loves it there...the food, culture and easy to move about...….much more than Europe. We went to Japan a LOT when the kids were young because of the short flight and easy to travel. The below pic was at Hokkaido in April 2012. Not mid winter but lots of snow. Second hokkaido trip was July and the views were like mid summer... After Japan, we went mainly to Europe. Then for the last couple of years it was various parts of USA when the direct USA flights became popular and cheap. SIA had slashed prices to USA a lot prior to covid, like new york, SF, Seattle. Just realised our travel pattern follows increasing flight times... Edited May 20, 2021 by Wind30

Lesson learned from this was we didn't really enjoyed both countries...as the time spent in one place was too short! so we told ourselves, no more, just go one country, spend real quality time there and stretch the period as well! After visiting most of Asia, we started to explore Europe....we have been to most of Europe, the last was in 2019 before CV hit us, spend the summer travelling to Eastern Europe...that my fren is another story... Antwerp, 2018, dubbed the most beautiful train station in the world ...hhhmmm...or is it Amsterdam!!….sorry too many places!! Personally, I don't really like USA for vacations as I find that there is nothing "special" there... only thing is shopping and given a choice between US and Europe, I much prefer Europe. My recent trips to Europe were actually Eastern Europe, like the Balkan countries and Russia. I prefer the Eastern European countries like Poland, Croatia, etc than France. It is like REALLY cheap. I always remember this buffet breakfast near our hotel in Krakow, and the price is in the picture which is like around 7sgd for a huge breakfast buffet and it taste very nice. Kolanko No 6 Restaurant on google map with 4600 reviews... The experience is very nice as you find that everything you buy/spend is like super good deals. you can hire private tour guides which we did for many of the countries. Karoon Turbocharged May 21, 2021 Share May 21, 2021 After several trips with kids i think i may be overexposing them to the good life. Tried to arrange visits to orphanages and shelters in developing countries but friends working there warned us they are mostly scams. The genuine ones are not accessible to tourists, or too dangerous for foreigners with children (not surprising as they operate hand-to-mouth, can't afford rent). Maybe 1 more trip is to the Grand Canyon...and that's it. we were planning for our Scandinavian trip in early 2020, but by March ...everything fell apart... most of our trips, we didn't hire any tour guides...we went along by doing our homework on the famous places ...rent a car, look for a place to stay and everyone bunk in, and enjoy the road trip....the excitement of what's round the corner was immensely motivating and as you said, trying new food and culture was salivating.... Lake Bled, Slovenia.....hidden gem...i would like to go back here in winter!!...

Totally agree... there's nothing really to see in the US... been once to LA on-route to the Canadian Rockies... quite wasted the two days layover... really much prefer Europe... and definitely prefer travelling myself... don't really tour guides... that's part of the fun... ha ha... and cheaper too... I did Eastern Europe myself before I got married... not sure if it's cheap... beautiful but not as easy to get around... I'm the other way round, I spent most of my vacations before COVID in Europe and OZ + NZ... didn't travel much to Asian countries... I really like long long trips... like 20-30 days... the city I love to visit most is still London... and the country I love most to visit is still UK... maybe I'm am Anglophile having grown up with English literature and media... ha ha... Yeah same same thinking... prefer to DIY... so much fun this way... also can teach my kids many things... really love to drive around... the flexibility and convenience is really second to none... many other parts of the world don't allow this so easily... it's mainly US + Canada + Europe + OZ + NZ... I did Scandinavia before but not all the countries... Copenhagen is beautiful and easy to travel about without a car... they have this day pass (1-7 days) which allows travel on all transport modes... amazing... then I flew to Bergen, another lovely city and I drove across the fjords and mountains to Geilo and onwards to Oslo... before routing back to Amsterdam to visit Brussels, Bremen & Amsterdam... super lovely trip... 18 days... flew SAS Singapore via Amsterdam to Copenhagen... go Europe fly European airlines... much greater flexibility... I always go for cheapest air ticket... ha ha ha...
