I have a 7 years old Samsung Galaxy Tab A and it still runs ok.
Only that the storage space is now tight as apps sizes are getting larger.

Seems like everyone change their phone every 2 years, and yet their kids/parents or even spouse are using their old phone?! Lol.

i used to change every year, cos i have mio tv, and that entitles me to yearly (not typical 21-mth) recontract... but last year no changed, cos want to downgrade my plan... and yes, makes sense to 're-use' the old phones cos they're still in good working condition mah, if wan buy new phones for kids/parents, if prepare spend $300-400, the phones also maybe not as good as the ones we changed out of leh...

Twincharged

This is where SPH can be of good use by providing relevant information to the public.

Fire from battery operated devices will happen especially those made from lithium. It is not if it will happen but when.

Fire and explosions occur with smartphones running on lithium battery and even EV vehicles. The two are produced in the millions and yet fire and explosions occur. So it is not surprising that PMD running on lithium is also at risk of fire and explosion.

The issues are:

1. most users do not appreciate their PMD is like a mini-bomb if it is not take care of

2. many are ignorant of the process of charging and their precautions including overheating, over-charging and etc.

3. a few smart aleck aka itchy fingers, will modify their PMD

4. buying from vendors supplying sub-standard PMD or others yet import from Taobao

5. some are just basically unlucky

In short, regardless of what is said and done, even crossing the street with traffic lights or zebra crossing, someone will either get hurt or killed.
