Just received rumors an hour ago that Darwin Nunez had agreed to the term & condition to come to Liverpool on a 5 years deal. Pool Director is at Benfica now talking to Benfica management.

If all runs well, DN will report to Liverpool this weekends. :a-happy:

Ok la if 22 yo... can still sell a few years later but must remember to offer extension every two years... lets hopr he can play like Mane in the central role... 1 person terrorise 2 CBs

Maybe he will be utilise as a no. 9 in a 4-2-3-1? :D

4-3-3 is our defensive shape..

We become hockey team or pre WW2 team when attacking... effectively playing 2-3-5

LOL

Pool really going for Nunez.

Not put off by the 85m price and salary already agreed.

:D

If we can get him, can seriously consider getting a good no. 8 or no. 10 to take up the space between front three and our midfield double pivot. Carvalho and Elliot can both flourish in such a role. Double pivot can also provide more protection for the back line and allow our two full backs to keep attacking and providing ammunition for Nunez.

We can set up in a 4-2-4 in future... morphing between 4-2-3-1 & 4-2-2-2

Nunez looks like a proper no. 9. Although big and strong, he looks really mobile and have quick feet too.

At the end of the day, it will come down to the price.  There are so many numbers floated anywhere bet 80 -100M.  You have to consider whether paying these sort of prices are worth it. Pool's owners are not the most trigger happy ones. I suspect even if they do a deal of this sort of range, it will involve a lower base amount followed by plenty of add-on bonuses to make anywhere near 80M.  Paying in instalments will probably be one of the requirements.

If Nunez does come in, I think Klopp will drop the false 9 and play a 4-2-3-1.  This will explain why Klopp is not actively getting orthodox B2B midfielders in the market but more of the no.10s - Calhavo, Elliot are probably most effective in no.10 position.  While these young players get up to speed, we have Bobby who is a no.10 all his life until he joined Pool.  Jota, Salah and Luiz will play wider as wingers in such a formation.  Overall, I think Klopp is looking to solve the issue of teams playing the low blocks against us...

It is reported (by the likes of Fabrizio Romano, James Pearce) that Liverpool have agreed a fee for Benfica’s Darwin Nunez understood to be worth €75 million (£64.1 million), with a further €25 million (£21.4 million) in potential add-ons.

Nunez, 22, is set to sign a six-year deal with Liverpool and will undergo a medical on Monday.

Benfica have officially confirmed the deal.

the likes of Echo, BBC and Guardian have now reported Nunez is done and only the medical (likely today) is outstanding. The deal is likely 64 pounds+ 21M add ons.  at a total cost of 85M, this will eclipse the previous record of 75M paid for VVD. What a grand fireworks start to the new sporting director Julian Ward 🙂

If Pool is able to recoup around 30-40M for Mane when he eventually pushes through his move to Bayern, the net outlay for this swap will be around 50-60M in total, with only about 30M upfront. It is a pretty clever piece of business by the owners.

Think once Nunez is in the door and Mane moves on, I believe the next step is to apply more pressure on Salah to either sign or he may well face the same outcome as the outspoken Mane.  Pool is deteminded to keep the current wage structure so the owners have demonstrated that they are prepared to stand firm even if it means to transit star players out.  Salah will be well-warned.

Nunez is flying from Spain to Liverpool this evening for his medical. He skip his country friendly match yesterday to prevent any injuries to himself.

After checks, he will be revealed with a signing press conference. :a-happy:
